The seasoned actor Bonko Khoza, who plays the ice-cream-loving taxi driver Mqhele Zulu in The Wife discusses his character and his plans after leaving the Showmax telenovela.

INSIDE BONKO KHOZA'S EXIT The Showmax telenovela The Wife has now announced that the character of Mqhele Zulu played Bonko Khoza will not be returning for season three of the show, which is set to return in November this year.

Khoza tells Drum Magazine exclusively that being on The Wife allowed him an opportunity to learn from industry greats.

I'm super grateful to have been part of this experience. I found myself amongst people I could've only dreamt to be in the same room as. I had the opportunity to learn from and play with the greatest this country has to offer, and I'm honoured to have done the work that we've done in seasons one and two.

I'm grateful for my colleagues we went to war together, for the amazing crew that worked tirelessly to make us look good, and really grateful for Stained Glass & Showmax for giving me a shot to express my gift. My biggest takeaway with The Wife is that South Africa is ripe and ready to deliver world-class content with our own original stories.

-- HIS NEXT ROLE AFTER THE WIFE' The 31-year-old actor Bonko Khoza says he is going to be focusing on taking his craft to the next level.

I'm going to continue to push myself to do the best work that I can. I hope to continue taking on compelling work that pushes boundaries just like The Wife.

Having had the privilege to play Mqhele Zulu for two seasons, I realise I've taken the character as far as I can, he says.

The production company, Stained Glass TV behind Uzalo, eHostela, Lingashoni and The Wife also confirmed that Bonko Khoza, who played Mqhele in the first two seasons has left the show.

The production company also revealed that they're currently casting for his replacement.

House of Zwide actress Gaisang K Noge will play the new leading lady doctor Naledi Montsho, who's in love with Qhawe Zulu when season three returns.

Other actors who will not be part of season three include Mbali Mavimbela, who played his wife Hlomu Zulu, Khanyi Mbau, who played his sister-in-law Zandile Zulu, Zikhona Sodlaka, who played his other sister-in-law Mandisa Zulu as well as his Mondli Mkhoba who played his older brother Nkosana.
