Adorama, one of the world's largest photography, video, imaging and electronics retailers, today announced two of its exclusive brands - Flashpoint and Glow - have each been named Best in Show winners in the annual Hot One Awards from Professional Photographer magazine. The 2014 awards honor the Flashpoint PowerStation PS-800 as the industry's best power pack and Glow Grand Softbox as best light modifier. Judged by some of the most experienced and well-regarded photographers in the business, the Hot One Awards are awarded to industry leaders in photography gear and services, and based on exceptional quality, innovation, design, performance and, where applicable, value for price.
The winners of the 2014 Hot One Awards are a unique group of products and services, representing some impressive innovation in everything from lens technology to software to inkjet papers, said Jeff Kent, Hot One Awards editor for Professional Photographer. The spirit of innovation is what makes this competition interesting year in, year out. This year's winners are certainly carrying on that tradition and providing professional photographers with fantastic new tools for their businesses.
The Flashpoint PowerStation PS-800 and the Glow Grand Softbox, as well as each brand's full product line, are only available at Adorama, both in store and online.
Best Power Pack: Flashpoint PowerStation PS-800
The Flashpoint PowerStation PS-800 provides consistent 120v AC power with two power modes: one for high-peak strobe units up to 3000-watt-seconds, with the battery life to deliver 500 flashes from a 600-watt-second head, and the other to support constant power flow for laptops, chargers and other low-power appliances. The powerhouse weighs 7.5 pounds and can be paired with a separate 8-pound interchangeable 12,000-mAh Lithium Ion battery for quick battery swaps. It recharges with an AC charger in just three hours, and photographers can also run the PowerStation PS-800 from a car battery.
According to industry expert Mason Resnick, the emphasis is on the concept of steady power. The problem with many portable power packs that are designed to offer a go-anywhere alternative to main wall socket power sources is that they don't necessarily provide a steady signal. For photographers, slight fluctuations in power translate into inconsistent lighting results. The PowerStation 800 offers steady, consistent power to meet the heavy demands of powerful studio flash by using inverters to convert the battery's direct current into an alternating current for devices that need 110V (typical for household outlets).
The Flashpoint PowerStation PS-800 is now available exclusively from Adorama for a discounted price of 839.95 USD after instant rebate.
Best Light Modifier: Glow Grand Softbox
The Glow 47 Grand Softbox's parabolic design features a reverse umbrella with a special bowl reflector, which optimizes the highlight/shadow ratio for a look that imitates sunlight. The Grand Softbox has the strength of a key light while acting as a reflector, helping it to blend with additional fill lights. Add the gridded outer diffuser shield for a softer wash. Built with durable, high-quality materials, the Grand Softbox comes with removable double diffusors. Glow R-series softboxes, available exclusively at Adorama, are built to the highest standards of quality and are compatible with most studio lights, as demonstrated by photo expert Diane Wallace. In accordance with the rest of the Glow series, the Glow 47 Grand Softbox is powerful enough to create a beautiful portrait with just one light source.
The Glow Grand Softbox is now available exclusively from Adorama for just 184.99 USD.
About the Professional Photographer Hot One Awards
The Hot One Awards are open to new or significantly revised products officially released between March 16, 2013, and March 15, 2014. The judges are well-regarded professional photographers who are not employed by Professional Photographer. They were specifically selected because of their expert level of photography knowledge. As part of the Hot One Awards selection process, judges chose one product in each category based on its exceptional quality, innovation, design, performance and, where applicable, value for price. Those products standing out from hundreds of submissions will be featured in Professional Photographer's August 2014 issue, as well as on http://www.ppmag.com.
