Godiva Awakes the Homecoming

Join Godiva's cavalcade as she rides Coventry's Ring Road Be part of Godiva's triumphant homecoming as she rides around Coventry's Ring Road on board her famous Cyclopedia.

Join hundreds of cyclists on Coventry's ring road and bring pedal power into the City in a day of cycling events and activities.

Enjoy street performances and a chance to see performances from Godiva Awakes choir, drummers, aerialists and dancers.

On Saturday 10 August 2013 Imagineer Productions Godiva will make her triumphant return to her home town of Coventry aboard her Cyclopedia with a cavalcade of cyclists and walkers joining her on Coventry's iconic ring road.

Imagineer Productions have teamed up with Coventry City Council and Cycle Coventry to deliver Godiva Awakes - The Homecoming. Cycle Coventry is a three year project which aims to improve facilities for cyclists and pedestrians in order to encourage more people, of all ages, to enjoy the health and recreational benefits of cycling. The Homecoming will also see the launch of Coventry on the Move, a major new campaign led by Coventry City Council aimed at encouraging people to get up and active and a enjoy a healthier life.

Throughout the day cyclists of all abilities are invited to take part in two Ride the Ring Road waves during the morning before joining Godiva's cavalcade. Cyclists are advised that they should pre-register to Ride the Ring Road (see full programme below), no pre-registration is required to take part in the cavalcade itself during which walkers and people on scooters are also welcome.

The Advanced Wave is more suitable for regular and experienced cyclists wishing to complete as many laps of the ring road that either time (or their body!) allows. The Leisure Wave is more suitable for families, new or returning cyclists and those who simply wish to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride around the city on closed roads.

Cyclists and pedestrians will enjoy street theatre performances from the Godiva Awakes choir, drummers, aerialists and dancers, meet Godiva as she arrives in the City and climbs off her Cyclopedia to walk about in Broadgate. In addition Godiva's bespoke Coat will be exhibited in the Cathedral ruins alongside the story of Godiva's journey to London as part of the Olympic Games.

We are looking forward to sharing Godiva's journey to London in 2012 with the people of Coventry and to The Homecoming being the start of a new tradition for Godiva, an annual street arts festival celebrating the City's heritage and cultural life which showcases the best local, national and international street artists.

Please note cyclists must be a minimum of 8 years old. Riders aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 16+ on a one to one basis. Children under the age of 8 can participate on trailer bikes or fitted cycle seats. There is no upper age limit.
