RT News & Current Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of RT Radio 1 reporter, Barry Lenihan, as Political Correspondent.
Barry has reported across the RT schedule since joining the broadcaster in 2013, initially as an intern, before going on to the role of multi-media journalist in the RT newsroom.
He joined RT Radio 1 as a reporter a year later, and has reported on all major political stories for the station for the past decade. He has also reported on significant events in British politics from Westminster as well as broadcasting live from Rome for the election of Pope Leo in 2025.
Barry has been a key journalist in the coverage of several elections and referenda across RT radio, television and online platforms. He created and co-presented the acclaimed Know Your Constituency RT Podcast a guide to all 43 constituencies in the 2024 General Election.
A multi-award winning journalist, Barry received a Headline Mental Health Media Award in 2022 for his reports on the Kerry CAMHS scandal. In 2024, he won News Reporter of the Year' at the IMRO Radio Awards. His sustained journalism on the 1988 shooting of Aidan McAnespie as well his dispatches with the Irish fans at Euro 2016 were also recognised at the IMRO Radio Awards.
Barry has previously presented RT Radio 1 programmes, including This Week, Drivetime, Saturday with '. and the night time political show The Late Debate. He also co-presented a special podcast on the 50th anniversary of the Dublin-Monaghan bombings.
He holds a BA in Journalism from Dublin City University.
Reacting to his appointment Barry said: I'm really looking forward to getting started and being part of the great team that is RT 's Political Unit, serving audiences across broadcast and digital media. I know I'm following some great people who've held this role over the years, so it's a real honour to take on the position .
Barry will be commencing his new role later this month.
