LEVA Expands Audio Forensics in Annual Conference

The Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) is known for its forensic video training, but audio forensics will be covered extensively during the 2015 LEVA Conference & Digital Multimedia Evidence Symposium, which runs Nov. 2-6 in Clearwater Beach, Fla., at the Hilton Clearwater.

Forensic audio is definitely an area of emphasis at this year's conference, explained Jan Garvin, LEVA Executive Director. There are a growing number of forensic video analysts who are also being tasked with audio forensics processing. It's a challenging area that requires its own training.

Audio Basics for Forensic Video Analysts will cover basic audio restoration techniques, while other sessions focus on Audio Cleaning, Unorthodox Methods to Clarify Audio, and Reducing Background Noises in Audio. Instructors will demonstrate various techniques using Avid, Adobe, and Audacity software.

The conference will still offer a significant amount of forensic video and image sessions, including a four-hour workshop detailing the process of synchronizing and clarifying audio and video recordings from multiple sources, including cell phone video acquired from the public. Plus, a new hands-on session, Vehicle Make/Model Determination, will introduce workflows and techniques to help determine the make/model of a particular vehicle, even with low-quality video. Additional specialized sessions include the two-day International Body Worn Video Summit, two-day Reverse Projection Workshop, and three-day Courtroom Testimony for Forensic Video Analysts seminar.

Attendees earn hours for LEVA certification with each conference session. Some sessions have limited availability and pre-registration is required.
