The past 365 days have been a wild ride, and our list of top downloads for the year reflects it well. Here are some of the top subscriber downloads from 2014.

1. Sunrise HDR Stock Video Footage As timeless as sunrises might be, it appears the magic hour was more in demand in 2014. With a deft touch of color grading and some HDR work to enhance its dynamic range, few clips tell of the passage of a night as efficiently as this one.

2. Chaos From the Ebola outbreak to Taylor Swift's breakup with Spotify, 2014 wasn't all charm. Perhaps no clip in our library defines chaos more than this one, a hypnotic marriage of disorder and disarray.

3. Flames Burning Alpha-channel footage of flames has so many uses there's no wonder it's among the top downloaded clips of 2014. Bonus: it's safer than playing with matches.

4. The History Ident This year was a great one for quality television, and among the shows that really blew us away was Neil deGrasse Tyson's Cosmos, which no doubt had a hand in the rise of this footage (just waiting to be transformed into your own personal cosmos).

5. Spooky Smoke From the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl to Matty McConaughey making one of the best comebacks in cinema, 2014 was the year of the wild card. If you are like us and love True Detective, you can now make your own intro with smoke, symbolism and stock footage.

6. Changing Television Screens As per usual, the media was out of control in 2014. This clip perfectly displays the barrage of information we receive on a daily basis-overloaded yet?

7. Sea Turtle Swimming Away One of our favorite clips from 2014 is this majestic sea turtle gracefully swimming beside a cameraman. It's a good reminder in the harshness of winter that summer is coming.

8. Stone Ruins and Sunrays through clouds The popularity of this mystical clip proves what we all knew already: that nothing looks more breathtaking than a dolly through ruins at sunset.

9. Makeup Artist Working on Client Good talent-released clips are hard to come by. Even harder to come by: stock footage of someone actually getting camera ready.

10. Inside Shot of Waterfall We say no year-end list is complete without stock waterfall footage, and with more than 10,000 downloads, it seems subscribers agree!
