Berlin s ARRI Mitte Invests in a Mistika 4K DI System to service Feature Film and High-End Commercial Projects

ARRI also chose Mistika to Finish Engaging 4K Feature Film Run Boy Run

Berlin, Germany, 18 October 2013 - Strategically placed in the centre of the trendy Mitte area of Berlin, brand new post production house ARRI Mitte has emerged and has invested in a Mistika 4K DI post production system from SGO's German Reseller creative tools, to service its high-end commercial and feature film projects. ARRI Mitte is the second facility related to the established parent company ARRI Film and TV Services Berlin GmbH and works on feature films by leading directors and with blue-chip clients for big brand names for ad campaigns for the likes of McDonald's, VW, Nikon, Fiat, Mobile.de, SKY, Danone Activia, Vodafone, Schweppes, BMW, Toshiba, Goretex, Sony Ericsson, Lipton Ice Tea and many others.

The company's streamlined concept is designed to attract core post production services directly to its stunning studio location. A state-of-the-art high-end Mistika Suite has been set up at ARRI Mitte next to a stylish grading cinema suite, an AVID offline studio, motion graphic services and a second grading suite for commercial clients. ARRI Mitte also provides complete solutions for both feature film and commercial projects within the extensive ARRI network based in Berlin, Cologne and Munich which covers rental, scanning, DCP, VFX, CG and print back to film. The online side of the post production arm which includes the conform, colour grading, finishing and mastering, takes place at its Mitte premises where the Mistika Suite resides.

Experienced Mistika Online Artist, Christian Troeger explains Mistika plays a a key role at ARRI Mitte for all our feature film projects and S3D workflow of all the stereoscopic 3D work and is also fully capable of handling our 2D projects as well. The Mistika Suite is equipped with the HPZ800, two 2K Eizo graphic monitors, Sony's OLED Video Monitor, an impressive 65 Plasma TV for Stereo (active) and we also have 50TB SAN storage capacity shared with the grading department. He adds Mistika was put to work immediately from day one with successful cinema projects already under our belt and with many more in the pipeline, which is very exciting.

ARRI Mitte has just completed thought-provoking 4K feature film Lauf Junge Lauf (Run Boy Run) for ARRI Film and TV Services Berlin GmbH using Mistika's award-winning toolsets. It was produced by bittersuess pictures GmbH and shot on 35mm by DoP Daniel Gottschalk. The native footage was scanned in 4K using ARRI's advanced scanner. Christian Troeger then worked in 4K DPX natively, where he also conformed, re-touched, mastered and finished the complete project in 4K in ARRI Mitte's Mistika suite. Directed by Pepe Danquart, the film is about a harrowing journey eight-year-old Srulik undertakes. The horrific ordeal is portrayed from the boy's perspective, as he flees from a Warsaw ghetto in 1942, where he has to survive alone and disguise his true identity. The film will be released in Germany on 23rd January 2014 and is based on the best-seller by Uri Orlev. This is yet another excellent example of the high-end feature film work that ARRI Mitte delivers at their facilities, where they contribute in post producing some of Germany and Europe's finest movies by well-respected film directors.

Other recent feature films finished on Mistika at ARRI Mitte this year include Kokow h 2, Schutzengel, Der Schlussmacher, Geld her oder Autsch'n! and Gro stadtklein. Kokow h 2 was directed by Til Schweiger and Torsten K nstler which came third in Germany's Film of the Year Award. The film is a Barefoot Productions GmbH for Warner Bros. Pictures Germany production about a troubled veteran from the Afghanistan war who works to protect an orphaned teenager who witnessed a murder from the killer's henchmen. Both movies were filmed using ARRI ALEXA in Pro-res with all conform and finishing work completed in Mistika at ARRI Mitte. Watch the trailer here.

Der Schlussmacher is a comedy feature film directed by Matthias Schweigh fer and was shot mostly on ARRI ALEXA RAW and finished in 2K in 4 by 3 in anamorphic scope with conform and finishing achieved using Mistika. Produced by Pantaleon Films GmbH for 20th Century Fox, the film is about an employee at a professional separation agency that helps couples break-up. Watch the trailer here.

Gro stadtklein is a 98 minute comedy feature film which entertained German audiences in August this year directed by Tobias Wiemann post produced using Mistika at ARRI Mitte.

In addition, several episodes of TV crime drama Jack Taylor: The Dramatist by director Stuart Orme were also finished using Mistika at ARRI Mitte, of which some were shot in RED and others with ARRI ALEXA cameras. As events unfold, a connection to Jack Taylor's past is revealed, with layers of his character exposed as he deals with a close personal tragedy. The series also gives the viewer a glimpse of the Irish culture and its rich history.
