Netflix and Amazon Prime Video usage continues to climb globally against falling views on Facebook and YouTube, Ampere Analysis has revealed.

According to Ampere's latest barometer, US and European viewers of videos on Facebook have declined by 5 per cent and YouTube by 4 per cent since 2016.

Over the same period, Netflix viewers increased by 15 per cent and Amazon by 9 per cent.

The study also found:

YouTube is the most popular service in all countries except the UK

The UK is the only country where fewer than half watched YouTube in the last month

Catch-up services attract more viewers in Europe than the US

Ampere Analysis consumer research lead Minal Modha said: YouTube's global dominance in this space is evident in its monthly usage. The differences in viewing between the US and Europe in relation to catch-up and SVoD services is interesting because it shows that SVoD providers will have to work harder in Europe to grow their share as they take on traditional TV channels' catch-up services. This could be through their catalogue, price-points or communications strategy.
