Xavier Rudd, Tokyo Police Club and Cold War Kids to Perform Free Concerts at 2014 GoPro Mountain Games
March 24, 2014 (Vail, Colo.) The Vail Valley Foundation, organizer of the annual GoPro Mountain Games, is pleased to announce the preliminary music line-up for this year's event. In its thirteenth year, the GoPro Mountain Games has grown to be considered the country's largest celebration of adventure sports, music and the mountain lifestyle. The event is scheduled for June 5-8, 2014 featuring three nights of free concerts from the heart of Vail Village, alongside more than 3,000 athletes competing across 25 sports for prize money exceeding $110,000.
The free Bud Light Mountains of Music outdoor concert series kicks off on Thursday, June 5 with Australian singer/songwriter Xavier Rudd. Indie rock bands, Tokyo Police Club and Cold War Kids, perform Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7.
Free music has always been a big component of the GoPro Mountain Games and this year we're excited to present our best concert line-up ever, says Mike Imhof, Senior Vice President of Sales & Operations at the Vail Valley Foundation. The Cold War Kids and Tokyo Police Club put on great shows and this will be their first time playing Vail. Xavier Rudd has proven to be one of our most popular acts and we're happy to welcome him back for the Thursday night concert.
We are thrilled to elevate the overall concert activation and artist experience at the upcoming GoPro Mountain Games, said Justin Wilkenfeld, GoPro's Director of Lifestyle Marketing. It is a natural progression to combine our passion for adventure with our love for music. Vail offers a beautiful backdrop to capture the on-mountain excitement, as well as epic music moments on stage and behind the scenes of this weekend-long festival.
As lead sponsor of the Mountain Games, GoPro will outfit athletes and music headliners with cameras to capture unique POV footage of all aspects of the festival experience. GoPro, best known for its ties to the action and adventure sports communities, has recently expanded its presence in music with the launch of the HERO3+ Black Edition/Music, which includes specially designed mounts and accessories to capture professional quality photos and video of any musical moment. Musicians including Tokyo Police Club, Cold War Kids and Xavier Rudd can easily mount the camera to instruments, microphone stands, turntables and other stage equipment to capture immersive GoPro style footage of any performance, including those at the GoPro Mountain Games.
Xavier Rudd, who performed at the 2011 Mountain Games, returns to Vail with his multi-instrumental act on Thursday, June 5, following the Bud Light Lime Steep Creek Kayak Championships on class V Homestake Creek. Rudd is a favorite on the Colorado mountain music scene, playing a high-energy show that features didgeridoos, drums, banjos, harmonicas and guitars.
The Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club was formed in 2005 and are scheduled to release their third record, Forcefield, later this month. The quirky, high-energy rockers' new album includes the tracks Argentina (Parts I, II and II), Hot Tonight and Toy Guns showcasing climactic drum builds, thundering bass lines and driving guitar riffs. Tokyo Police Club is slated to perform on Friday, June 6 following the GoPro Mountain Game's marquee GoPro Slopestyle competition.
Formed in 2004, the Cold War Kids released their breakthrough album Robbers & Cowards to considerable acclaim in 2006. The Long Beach, California-based band released its fourth studio album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, last year and has been on an aggressive touring schedule ever since, playing some of the country's biggest music festivals. With dramatic vocals from lead singer Nathan Willet and plenty of drum heavy, foot-stomping instrumentals, the Cold War Kids free street concert in Vail is sure to be a crowd pleaser Saturday night, immediately following the IFSC Bouldering World Cup finals, the only World Cup bouldering event in the United States.
Registration for the 2014 GoPro Mountain Games is available at www.gopromountaingames.com. Spectating at the GoPro Mountain Games, and all concerts are free and open to the public.
