Rose dOr draws record number of entries

The Rose d'Or has received a record number of entries for the 2014 competition. Over 100 broadcasters and production companies have submitted nearly 400 programmes to compete for the illustrious entertainment award.

Entries have come from countries all over Europe and from further afield, including Canada, USA, Australia, Korea, United Arab Emirates and Japan.

The Rose d'Or honours excellence and creativity in entertainment programmes and recognise the most outstanding in their field. The entertainment award was relaunched by EUROVISION (operated by the European Broadcasting Union) last year.

For the first time in its 53-year history, the competition has expanded to include radio and online video as well as television programmes.

There are six categories for television and online video - Arts, Factual & Reality Entertainment, Game Show, Comedy, Sitcom - and Entertainment; and three new categories covering radio - Comedy, Entertainment, and Reality & Factual Entertainment.

The volume of entries has been impressive, says EUROVISION Director Annika Nyberg Frankenhaeuser. Of course, this isnt about the number of programmes, but the extremely high quality of the programming. The standards are being raised across all platforms. By adding the radio and online categories, we can duly recognise the excellent work that is being done."

Each category will be judged by separate panels consisting of internationally recognised professionals in TV, radio and online media industries.

The juries form a hugely important part of this event and they are fully aware of how prized these awards are. The Rose d'Or is the only award that recognises excellence in entertainment programming, and the people who create them, on a global scale. Ms Nyberg Frankenhaeuser says.

On 19 May 2014, each jury will publish the finalists for their respective category before the winners are announced at the Rose d'Or award ceremony in Berlin on 17 September 2014.
