National Geographic Video Filming Popular Snapchat Quiz Series With Host Angeli Gabriel, Encouraging Fans to Join Shoots
(WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 23, 2016) In an effort to get consumers closer to adventure than ever before, National Geographic is bringing its world-class storytelling backed by 128 years of science, adventure and exploration to the 2016 VidCon Convention in Anaheim, California. Attendees at the annual gathering of online video fans, creators and industry leaders will have the opportunity to connect with the iconic yellow border during the three-day convention at various presentations and events. For more information, visit video.nationalgeographic.com or follow @NatGeo on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
Join Bertie Gregory (@BertieGPhoto), the host of Nat Geo WILD's first-ever digital series wild_life, as he shares his experiences in his presentation Filming Alongside Bears, Wolves and Sea Lions: Behind the Scenes of wild_life by Nat Geo's Bertie Gregory (1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 24, and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25) at the booth located at 1801 in Hall B. wild_life with Bertie Gregory premieres Wednesday, Aug. 3, on YouTube and NationalGeographic.com.
On Thursday, June 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. PDT on the grassy knoll at the Anaheim Convention Center, fans can take part in the popular Snapchat Quiz series with host Angeli Gabriel (@angeligabriel). In a unique opportunity, during those two hours, National Geographic will be encouraging VidCon attendees to participate in shoots, some of which will air on National Geographic's Snapchat channel on Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m. EDT, with the rest airing in late summer.
In an effort to collaborate with influential digital stars on YouTube, Snapchat and Vine, National Geographic Video is also in preproduction for the first hosted in-the-field series with several leading content creators. National Geographic is known for advancing science and exploration with experts in the field. We are advancing that tried and true formula by creating a community of digitally native explorers, said James Williams (@burningtoast), director of digital video for National Geographic, whose VidCon panel, Building a Successful Snapchat Channel, will take place Thursday, June 23, at 12:30 p.m. PDT in Room 304 AB. Whether they study wild animals, wild places, conservation efforts or people and culture, we want to give creators a chance to advance their research and expertise with a National Geographic spin and to teach digitally native generations. The series will be formally announced later this summer.
About wild_life:
Join 22-year-old wildlife filmmaker, photographer and National Geographic Young Explorer Bertie Gregory (@BertieGPhoto) as he journeys to the west coast of Vancouver Island in search of the elusive coastal wolves, a species that inhabits one of the last places on the planet where a wild forest meets a wild ocean. Originally from South West England, Gregory has been obsessed with nature and photography since childhood when he would sneak off to take photos of his local wildlife with his father's camera. With talent and work ethic well beyond his years, Bertie is making waves in the photography community and working as photo assistant to his mentor and renowned National Geographic photographer Steve Winter. Over the course of 16 episodes, Gregory finds that tracking down these wolves proves to be harder than expected but he's not giving up. Along the way, he finds himself face to face with some of the most charismatic species that live along this pristine coastline. From humpback whales to bald eagles to Steller sea lions, each episode features Gregory's encounters with these epic animals. His journeys through the local landscape alongside its diverse animals provide a unique perspective on this coastal paradise. The camera is always rolling. It's raw. It's real. It's intimate. And it's available only online. For a sneak peek of the series, click here.
