Aspiro TV Selects Thomson Video Networks to Deploy Multi-screen Video Services

RENNES, France - March 21, 2013 - Thomson Video Networks today announced that Aspiro TV, a Norwegian company providing multi-screen TV services and products, has chosen the Thomson Video Networks ViBE VS7000 multi-screen video system for the launch of its premium hosted platform with flexible time-based encoding capacity, catering to live channels and events. Aspiro TV's customers have shown tremendous interest in a solution that significantly reduces the cost and complexity of broadcasting events like sport and news by enabling capacity to be booked on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

We are proud to be working with Aspiro TV, regarded as one of the pioneers in hosted video streaming solutions. The Internet is the ideal medium for distributing live events like sport and news, and our partnership with Aspiro TV is enabling the launch of a product which will allow much-needed commercial and operational support for these services, said Christophe Delahousse, president of Thomson Video Networks. With our unique live transcoding ViBE VS7000 platform, Aspiro TV is once again delivering a visionary new service. It's the latest example of how interoperability with our partners' solutions is helping Thomson Video Networks build momentum in the WebTV and OTT markets and paving the way for future solutions, such as upcoming advances in our HEVC offerings.

After a lengthy and detailed evaluation of the ViBE VS7000, Aspiro TV found the product ideally suited to its operational needs - delivering premium picture quality that exceeded the expectations of Aspiro TV customers. Endorsed by a number of reputable broadcasters and network operators, the ViBE VS7000 video system is a breakthrough anything in, anything out encoding/transcoding platform for Web TV, over-the-top (OTT) services, IPTV, and cable delivery. The ViBE VS7000 combines Thomsons renowned next-generation compression platform for outstanding picture quality in an all-IP environment with live broadcast-quality encoding, innovative video pre-processing, and faster-than-real-time file transcoding.

Having operated a hosted streaming platform since the early days of multi-screen over-the-top video delivery, we have seen the evolution of transcoding technology. Thomson Video Networks' ViBE VS7000 has brought a new level of performance and reliability that enables premium picture quality to be delivered in the same way as traditional broadcasting systems, said Jussi Komonen, chief operating officer, Aspiro TV. We have found Thomson Video Networks to be an excellent partner with which to jointly launch this live transcoding solution.
