Ericon provides IMS platform to KDDI as sole solution vendor

Ericsson will provide Japanese operator KDDI with an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) - the foundation for communication services over LTE

Ericsson plans to start providing IMS after the second half of 2013

Ericssons IMS will serve as the basis for new communication services such as RCS, HD voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video calling over LTE

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has signed a contract with Japans KDDI Corporation for the development and deployment and of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a 3GPP standardized platform that delivers multimedia services. With Ericssons IMS, KDDI will realize delivery of the latest telecommunication services for its over 35 million subscribers. The deployment of IMS is scheduled to commence after the second half of 2013.

Having launched LTE mobile broadband services in September 2012, KDDI now introduces IMS in order to take advantage of the latest technological developments that Ericsson as the technology leader provides globally. By consolidating both wireless and fixed systems, KDDI strengthens the framework for services and will be able to make better use of its resources and optimize both capital and operational expenditure. Ericssons IMS will also pave the way for KDDI to launch additional services such as Rich Communications Suite (RCS), HD voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video calling over LTE - thereby opening up new revenue streams.
