More Than 160,000 Collected in 2012 Via Text Message Donations Ljubljana, 8 January Telekom Slovenije's Text Message Donation service enables organizations dealing with causes like charity, humanitarianism, good will, and assistance for handicapped people to quickly, simply, and efficiently gather funds through text messages. In 2012 Telekom Slovenije supported more than 50 new organizations while continuing to support around 10 Text Message Donations. Many different campaigns were launched, raising a total of over 160,000. Telekom Slovenije donated over 5,000 to charitable organizations via Text Message Donation campaigns.

The Text Message Donation service has been operating quite successfully on the Slovenian market since 2003. Because of ever increasing interest from organizers of charity drives and the positive reaction of its users, last year Telekom Slovenije added a new amount category to its donation scheme, specifically in the amount of 5. In addition we have extended rights for using the service also to organizations which offer assistance to people with disabilities. More new features are planned for this year, enabling humanitarian organizations to operate even more easily and efficiently.

Mobitel users donate via Text Message Donations by sending a text message to 1919 with a given keyword. As a response they receive a thank-you message from the charitable organization to which the funds were donated. Users donate either 1 or 5 with every text message sent, and their money goes directly to the specific cause of the given charitable organization, and Telekom transfers money to the organization holding the campaign. For its part, Telekom Slovenije refuses profits made from sent text messages, while allowing the organizations to activate the service free of charge, while also covering the costs of data processing and the logistics of Text Message Donations.

Several collaborations with various larger scale charitable organizations and media sponsors resulted in quite a few notable charity projects in 2012. Via Text Message Donations, users supported the pan Slovenian Botrstvo (Sponsorship) project, made the holidays possible for socially disadvantaged children and the elderly, helped provide treatment for children with various diseases, raised funds for food packages and medical humanitarian missions, donated to help people in developing countries, and particularly proved themselves in campaigns to help flood-hit areas in Slovenia, which were ravaged by storms in November 2012. All together Telekom Slovenije collected over 160,000 of funds, and Telekom Slovenije donated over 5,000 in its own name. The success of these campaigns shows that, with Text Message Donations, the operator has successfully joined activities in telecommunications and social responsibility, while also showing that users know how to respond to a call for help, something that we thank them for sincerely.
