27 September, 2017 - 08:10
The Cape Town International Film Market will take place from October 18th - 21st 2017 at the V & A Waterfront. Unlike any other film industry event in the country, the Cape Town Film Market will be a multi-purpose event; a business development and sales opportunity for industry support businesses, a networking event for all industry stakeholders, and an educational platform where best practice information will be shared across a range of competencies.
The CTIFM&F COUCH CONVERSATION SERIES (17 - 20 October 2017) will be a first of its kind for the South African film festival and market landscape.
In this informal space guests will get to chat to some of the biggest names in the industry's different disciplines, in an intimate, no frills fashion - as if we were on the couch at each others homes..
Just some of the well-known and respected industry leaders that will be taking part are:
Sharlto Copley, perhaps best known for playing the roles of Wikus van der Merw in Neil Blomkamp's District 9. Copely will take part in a number of sessions; reflecting his mutlitple talents as a screenwriter, producer and director himself; there is so much more to multi faceted Copley, than what meets the eye.
Aron Warner (producer/writer) is the Academy Award -winning producer of the animated blockbusters Shrek, Shrek 2, the highest grossing animated film of all time, the 800 million dollar grossing Shrek the Third, and the latest installment, Shrek Forever After.
Mike Auret is the Managing Director of Spier Films and is most well-known for his involvement in The Salvation (Co-Producer), Young Ones (Producer), Of Good Report,(Producer) and Black Butterflies (Producer). Mike will take part in a discussion on the Benefits of Co-Production along with representatvies from the NFVF and Wesgro.
Todd Brown, Canada's well known and respected expert will also be in attendance, hosting a Film Distribution workshop alongside Mike Auret and Clement Virgo amongst others. Todd is the founder and editor of international film website Screen Anarchy (formerly TwitchFilm.com) and the director of international programming for Fantastic Fest. Clement Virgo is a Canadian film and television writer, producer and director who runs the production company, Conquering Lion Pictures, with producer Damon DOliveira.

THE TALE OF THE WORLDS A STAGE (14h00 - 15h00)
in conversation with Antoinette Louw, Christia Visser & Lee-Ann van Rooi.
Moderated by Louw Venter.
Theres absolutely nothing special about her acting. Shes not particularly attractive. I cant stand her. She is over 40. She is under 30. She is fat. She is too thin.... These ladies have heard it all but still they raise the bar higher. They keep going and despite some who want to see them fail, and even when they have, they simply dont make it their problem.
THE TALE OF HOW BEHIND EVERY ACTOR IS A DIE HARD AGENT AND CASTING DIRECTOR
in conversation with Moonyeenn Lee, Christa Schamberger Young and Suzanne Smith Boje.
Moderated by Adrian Galley (SAGA).
In Hollywood the casting director is recognized as a vital ingredient in the filmmaking process and casting directors will get up front credits next to the cinematographers, editors, screenwriters and other crafts people. Finally this important group of people are getting the recognition they've been fighting for, for years.
THE TALE OF THE MULTI FACETED DIRECTOR (18h00 - 19h00)
in conversation with Uga Carlini (Alison) & Brett Michael Innes (Sink), Clement Virgo (TheBook of Negroes, The L Word).
Moderated by Sharlto Copley.
At this years SAFTAs we saw several examples of the same name pop up in different categories under some of South Africas favourite nominated films. This tells us that a new breed of director has emerged, that of which versititily, a bag of tools bigger than life itself and a spirit to match is required to make it as part of that small percentage of films that actually got made.

The movie critic wants the same as anyone else, to be entertained, emotionally engaged and have their perceptions challenged. They want a well crafted movie, and as with all audiences - they want something that in some way s
