The Polokwane Film Festival to empower filmmakers

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) in association with Ashifa Entertainment hosted the inaugural Polokwane Film Festival where 3 films were screened free of charge.

The initiative is part of the NFVFs Provincial roadshows which are aimed at empowering upcoming filmmakers with relevant information in filmmaking and also to encourage film activity in all regions across the country.

The festival will feature workshops on various aspects of filmmaking like producing, directing and scriptwriting, as well as a session on how to enter the film industry. These workshops will be facilitated by industry figures like actor and producer Dumi Gumbi, actress Mutodi Neheshe and Isaac Mogajane, one of the producers of the feature film Blitz Patrollie.

There will also be screenings of local films like Material, GogHelen, Little One, Adventures in Zambezia and A Million Colours. Entrance to the festival is free however the public is encouraged to register for attendance on the festivals website as seats are limited. Young people, especially those with interests in pursuing careers in filmmaking, are encouraged to attend.

If the Limpopo people do not stand up and tell their own stories, no one will, so the time is now to tell genuine and factual stories of this beautiful place. It is time we flood the archives of Polokwane with our stories, this to benefit generations to come, says Ashifashabba Muleya of Ashifa Entertainment.

This is a very special occasion as it marks the beginning of what we hope will grow to be one of the massive and fruitful local film festivals. Taking film to all corners of the country is at the core of our strategy as the NFVF and initiatives like these enable us to achieve our goal. We are inviting all upcoming filmmakers in Polokwane and students with interest in filmmaking to come and be part of the Polokwane Film Week, says Aifheli Makhwanya, Acting Head of Marketing and Communications at NFVF.

Polokwane Film Festival is organised by the NFVF and Ashifa Entertainment, and is proudly supported by Ster-kinekor, Pick n Pay, Mall of the North and Capricorn FM.
