The NAB Show kicks off on Saturday, and the SVG and SVG Europe editorial teams are preparing to bring you the hottest stories from all over the Las Vegas Convention Center. Until then, here's a preview of the offerings that exhibitors are most proud of.

Advanced Image Robotics (Booth W4143AG) Advanced Image Robotics (AIR) is debuting AIR AutoPilot, an AI add-on for the AIR One robotic camera system (2022 NAB Technical Innovation Award, 2023 Product of the Year). It's the first autonomous robotic camera to use AIR's proprietary Visual Language Model (VLM) for continuous subject tracking.

The VLM outperforms standard computer-vision models, can track subjects through complex scenes, and enables full self-driving multicam production using the AIR platform. Traditional AI tracking solutions in sports video have been limited to computer-vision models that require extensive pre-training and third-party data. They struggle with complex scenes, similar-looking targets, or occlusions. They require constant supervision and thus are not truly autonomous.

Advanced Image Robotics will introduce an AI add-on for its AIR One robotic camera system.

AIR AutoPilot, in contrast, achieves more than 90% accuracy in subject tracking and trains in real time. Straight out of the box, the VLM can analyze a scene holistically and semantically, understanding the difference between individuals, the makeup of a scene, and how those things change through the course of an event. It does not require wearable trackers and, deploying AIR's digital-cinema-camera robotics, captures video that is cleaner and higher-resolution than any other solution on the market.

For sports, AIR AutoPilot enables autonomous iso-tracking of individual players or coaches, which is useful for miked-up segments or star-player follow shots. It can also track pairs, adjusting pan, tilt, zoom, and focus to keep both in frame - tightening when they're close, widening when apart. This has been successfully demonstrated in doubles tennis and would also work well for combat sports like MMA, boxing, wrestling, and fencing. Combined with the smooth, human-like movement of AIR robotics, AIR AutoPilot is a force-multiplier for live-production crews.

The VLM copes extremely well with fast-changing environments. For example, AIR AutoPilot tracked Steph Curry through a crowd of people as they rushed the court at the end of a Golden State Warriors game. It has also been successfully tested as an iso-tracking solution for the center-ice speed camera position in professional hockey.

AIR AutoPilot is controlled via the AIR App. An operator simply selects which subject to track from a choice of red bounding boxes, and the VLM takes over. To disengage the VLM, the operator simply presses a button and retakes manual control. With this ease of use, a single operator can easily manage multiple robots from anywhere in the world at ultra-low latency. AIR has successfully run AutoPilot robots at a sports event in Florida from a VLM server in Michigan handled by operators in California.

AIR is also developing game-follow tracking, syncing multiple cameras to cover live action from a main position.
