Wednesday's launch of the new video exchange platform EURORADIO2See will see EURORADIO Members offered an exclusive live stream from the Montreux Jazz Festival of UK Indie folk singer Jake Bugg (10/7).
The platform, which has been created for the exclusive use of the EBU Community, enables Members to offer videos of concerts, live or on demand. In return, broadcasters can embed the material of other Members on their own websites from a centrally-based delivery platform.
Head of Radio, Christian Vogg says the initiative will help radio stations feed the increasing appetite for video content.
The generation of digital natives is unlike the passive listeners of the past, said Mr Vogg. Their preferences have led radio stations and others to think harder and more creatively about how to satisfy their needs. Broadcasting Live Music on radio will always be one of the distinctive features of public service stations. However this platform offers audiences the chance to enjoy complimentary interviews and video clips.
EURORADIO2 See is a Member-only platform, which means Members are required to log-in to access the content. Relevant rights must be first cleared and videos may be geo-blocked and offered for a pre-set time period.
Mr Vogg says the platform also benefits artists seeking to reach a broader audience, through offering the EURORADIO Community temporary access to their video material.
For festivals in particular, live streams are a very efficient way to get promoted and to place yourself on the world map, said Mr Vogg. Two years ago, Jake Bugg was strumming his guitar in his bedroom somewhere in Nottingham, England. Last week, he entertained 100,000 festival goers at Glastonbury. This Wednesday, EURORADIO2See will provide potential to reach an audience of a few million.
