Image Factory Productions Captures Music Luminaries with Panasonic Profeional Cameras and Projectors
26/11/2013
Chris Kissinger, principal of Image Factory Productions
Chris Kissinger, principal of Image Factory Productions (Los Angeles, CA), served as the director of the concert recording. A longtime music industry veteran and himself a former performer, he is often the top directorial choice of performing artists such as Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jackson Browne. Since 2001, Kissinger has also been the video I-MAG Producer/Director at Los Angeles' historic Greek Theatre, where he recently supervised the installation of Panasonic P2 HD and AVCCAM camcorders and remote HD cameras, as well as two PT-DW17KU WXGA, 17K lumen projectors and an AG-HMX100 HD A/V mixer.
I've worked with Panasonic gear at the Greek Theatre for well over a decade, and we were poised to upgrade to HD live production there at precisely the time I was hired for the Lincoln Center gig, Kissinger said. In New York, I found a sophisticated installation dominated by Panasonic P2 HD and remote HD cameras. My satisfaction with that complex 19-camera shoot certainly influenced our selection of specific Panasonic equipment for the California venue.
The 5,900 capacity Greek Theatre is an internationally renowned venue that presents a wide variety of headline entertainment, from pop to classical, Latin to rock and much more. It has even been the backdrop for blockbuster movies, including a starring role in Get Him to the Greek. During the 2013 season, Kissinger used the Panasonic equipment to capture and project performances from world-renowned artists such as Barry Manilow, the Rascals, Ana Gabriel and The Lumineers, among others.
The range of Panasonic gear we chose is delivering superior price/performance, and is seamlessly integrated. We like the HPX370's interchangeable lensing, and the impressive 22X digital zooms on the HPX255 and AC160A. The projectors, with an extremely small footprint, represent a significant improvement, especially in terms of keystone correction and skewing, said Kissinger.
During a typical event at the Greek, Kissinger deploys two AG-HPX370 P2 HD shoulder-mounts, an AG-HPX255 P2 HD handheld and an AG-AC160A AVCCAM HD handheld as his manned cameras, with two AW-HE50S HD pan/tilt/zooms operated remotely. He switches the show through the HMX100, and projects to two 12 by 16-foot live screens through the PT-DW17KU WXGA projectors.
Kissinger has previously used Panasonic professional equipment for live production at Los Angeles' The Shrine Auditorium, The Hollywood Bowl, Atlanta's Chastain and the Woodruff Arts Center Symphony Hall with Atlanta Symphony. About the AG-HPX370
The AG-HPX370 is an affordable second-generation, interchangeable lens camcorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2, independent-frame full 1920 x 1080 resolution AVC-Intra recording. The HPX370 incorporates newly-developed 1/3 , full-HD 2.2 megapixel U.L.T. (Ultra Luminance Technology) 3-MOS imagers and a 20-bit Digital Signal Processor to acquire native 1920 x 1080 resolution images. Rivaling the image quality and sensitivity of imagers, the new U.L.T. sensor results in marked improvements in sensitivity, measured at F10. The same levels of sensitivity and image production that characterize the interlace mode are now possible in progressive mode courtesy of Progressive Advanced Processing (P.A.P.), a 3D adaptive processing technology.
About the AW-HE50S
The AW-HE50S with HD/SD-SDI and component outputs plus genlock features a sleek, compact design that combines outstanding image quality, smooth pan/tilt/zoom operation, and easy integration for superior HD and SD production and video communications. The camera utilizes full HD MOS sensors , along with Panasonics exclusive Dynamic Range Stretch (DRS) technology and Hybrid 2D/3D Noise Reduction processing, to produce smooth, sharp HD video with up to 850 lines of horizontal resolution in a wide range of lighting conditions and environments. Equipped with both IP and RS-422 serial control interfaces built-in, the HE50S is a great choice for multi-camera systems and demanding applications such as television and cable production, sports video, A/V and conference facilities, houses of worship, and professional staging applications.
About the PT-DW17KU
In addition to the high brightness and compact size, the PT-DW17KU with WXGA (1,366 x 768) resolution and 17,000 lumens of brightness boasts long lamp replacement cycles of up to 2,000 hours and installation flexibility, making this projector ideal for large - venue applications such as auditoriums, museums and rental and staging that requires both maximum brightness and easy handling. The Lens Memory adjusts the image size and location in up to three different projection positions and the combination of four new 465W UHM lamps and the Dynamic Iris allow the PT-DW17KU to deliver a 10,000:1 contrast ratio to ensure super high brightness and best possible picture quality.
