Screen Producers Australia is delighted to announce that our successful Ones To Watch mentoring programme will be freshly launched for 2017 on 18 April.
Firmly cemented in its fifth year, Ones To Watch is a selective entry, mentor program for emerging producers throughout Australia who create innovative content across big and small screens.
Under the program up to twenty participants are selected and provided with one-on-one guidance by a leading screen industry mentor to develop their projects, prepare pitching strategies and expand their professional network in the lead up to and during the SCREEN FOREVER 2017 Conference held in Melbourne across 14-16 November.
Last year's mentors included representatives from Hoodlum, Essential Media and Entertainment, Matchbox Pictures and Arclight Films.
Ones to Watch Alumni include: Bridget Callow-Wright (2015) the producer of the forthcoming The Butterfly Tree starring Melissa George; Tamasin Simpkin (2014) the Producer of YouTube/ABC The Katering Show and Brian Cobb of Cobbstar Productions (2013), among many more dynamic talent.
The Ones To Watch programme facilitated incredible career opportunities, said Bridget Callow-Wright of Midwinter Films, who as recipient of the exclusive Screen Internship in 2015 subsequently took placement at New York film fund and production company Stay Gold Features, founded by Netflix's Beasts of No Nation producer, Daniela Taplin Lundberg. I am now continuing to scout for projects in the Australasian region for Stay Gold Feature's investment fund.
Ones To Watch offered very specific focused support for my feature film (then in financing, and now in post) The Butterfly Tree. The mentorship I received through the programme from Porchlight Films' Vincent Sheehan was a real privilege and provided fantastic creative producing advice, as well as a wealth of very specific and useful financing knowledge for the film. Callow-Wright added.
Since completing the Ones To Watch programme in 2013 and also being awarded the Ones To Watch Screen Internship, Brian Cobb of Sydney-based production company, Cobbstar Productions has developed the most watched gay web series in the world, The Horizon, and has opened Sydney's first dedicated Virtual Reality studio. Cobbstar Productions has also been selected to pitch their new series Patricia Moore at MipTV's Digital Short Form Series pitching event next month in Cannes. They are the only Australian company that was chosen after a strict selection process and one of just six in the world chosen to pitch.
Being part of the Ones To Watch initiative was an accelerated development opportunity that allowed me to develop my projects with the guidance and connections of the best minds in the industry. It was an invaluable experience of which I continue to reap powerful results both domestically and globally, Cobb said.
Once applications open on 18 April 2017, applicants have until 2 May to submit their proposals. Successful applicants will be informed on 12 May and matched with mentors.
