Lady Ganga Breaks World Record Before She Dies

When Michele Baldwin, a 45 year old mother of three, was told she had just months to live, she decided to do the unthinkable. She broke a world record by paddle boarding 700 miles down India's Ganges River to spread awareness about cervical cancer, the disease that would ultimately take her life.

After returning home from her journey, Michele met producers Frederic Lumiere and Mark Hefti who instantly became committed to carrying out Baldwin's vision - putting an end to cervical cancer. With only weeks left to live, Baldwin gave the filmmakers unlimited access to chronicle her final days in a working documentary entitled Lady Ganga.

Lumiere and Hefti are currently raising money to finish the film via Kickstarter and plan to donate 100% of the film's profits to the Michele Baldwin Foundation, which is run by the American Sexual Health Association which aims to raise awareness about HPV and cervical cancer.

We launched this Kickstarter campaign hoping to raise enough money to complete the film, but when pledges started pouring in from all over the world we realized that this was much more than just a documentary, it became a movement, said Hefti. What if a film had the power to change the world? added Lumiere. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every year more than 270,000 women die from cervical cancer and more than 85% of these deaths are in low and middle-income countries.

After achieving their initial fundraising goal of $50,000 in less than 48 hours, Lumiere and Hefti wondered how they could help spread the message of the film worldwide. In the remaining two weeks of the campaign, the duo have decided to stretch the goal to $500,000. They plan to partner with women's health organizations around the world to show the film to as broad of an audience as possible. With this in mind, the filmmakers want Lady Ganga to be narrated by local actors in the 50 most prevalent languages around the globe, reaching more than 5 billion people.
