XP-D and XP-I D-Cinema Servers Integrate New Cinema Audio Format
Qube Cinema has been licensed to support Dolby Atmos playback in its servers. The Qube XP-D and XP-I digital cinema servers are the first in the Qube server line to be evaluated to support Dolby Atmos playback with software updates expected to be available in early 2014. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by giving filmmakers the ability to precisely place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, even overhead, to create the most engaging cinematic experience ever.
Exhibitors are always on the lookout for ways to enhance the audience experience, said Raja Enok, Chief Marketing Officer, Qube Cinema. Integrating this value add technology into Qube servers allows theater owners to take advantage of the superior sound offered by Dolby Atmos.
Dolby Atmos has rapidly become the preferred sound format of award-winning filmmakers, major studios and exhibitors the world over.The addition of Dolby Atmos functionality to the Qube servers will improve the movie-going experience for audiences by enabling an accurate reproduction of the filmmakers' original intent for the audio experience. With just a server software update exhibitors will be able to play back the new audio format and provide movie-goers with a superior sound experience.
Integrating Dolby Atmos with Qube Cinema servers makes it easier for exhibitors to take advantage of the future of superior sound, said Doug Darrow, Senior VP, Cinema, Dolby Laboratories. Using overhead speakers, as well as surrounds, Dolby Atmos creates realistic and natural sound experiences that envelop and involve audiences in the stories on the screen.
