The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that Emma Baehr has become its director of Awards, a new role that oversees all five of BAFTA's London-based ceremonies including November's British Academy Children's Awards and next February's EE British Academy Film Awards.
Baehr will be responsible for the ongoing development of BAFTA's Awards, ensuring output reaches a wide and diverse audience, increasing engagement with the film, television and games industries and identifying strategic partnerships. Baehr will report directly to BAFTA's chief executive, Amanda Berry, whom Baehr will join on BAFTA's senior management team.
Berry commented, The director of Awards role is a key one for BAFTA. Emma will ensure the Awards continue to be delivered to the very highest standard, maximising the impact of the Awards on our ever-growing international audiences whilst helping to identify new business and revenue opportunities. This appointment will allow me to move away from day-to-day management of the Awards and broaden my remit across the organisation.
As part of the restructure, Jim Bradshaw, head of membership, also becomes acting head of film with responsibility for the EE British Academy Film Awards and will be supported by Awards officer Bradley Down.
The BAFTA Albert Consortium, the industry body for environmental sustainability within television production, has been nominated for a TVBAward award in Sustainability for its Albert+ tool. The event is the first of its kind from TVBEurope in partnership with TV Technology Europe and takes place tomorrow at the Hilton London Wembley. The event will celebrate excellence across the broadcast industry and will be a great opportunity to network with colleagues and meet emerging talent.
