Fears of a second summer of strikes in Hollywood have ended after IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached a tentative agreement on all issues for the Area Standards Agreement, the companion contract to the Basic Agreement that was tentatively agreed earlier this week.
IATSE represents over 168,000 technicians, artisans, and craftspersons in motion picture and television production, broadcast and trade shows in the United States and Canada.
The Area Standards Agreement covers 20,000 film and TV workers around the United States. The Basic Agreement covers those working in Los Angeles.
Pending ratification, both deal agreements mean that production on TV and film projects will not be shut down as it was last summer.
Among the terms of the deal are new protections around artificial intelligence, including language that ensures no employee is required to provide AI prompts in any manner that would result in the displacement of any covered employee.
Members and signatories will have the opportunity to review the agreement in the form of a detailed summary in the days to come, followed by a Memorandum of Agreement (M.O.A.) at a later date, the two sides said in a statement.
