Essential broadcast and production technology event welcomes record number of new exhibitors and leading brands in attendance
BVE 2015 enjoyed a very successful opening day with busy stands and overflowing seminar theatres. Visitors reflected the diversifying nature of broadcasting with representatives from Arsenal Media Group, BBC, BT, Channel 4, Deutsche Bank, Endemol, Envy Post Production, Network Rail, ITV, Specsavers and The Farm Group in attendance.
Exhibitors were busy from the minute the show opened, and confidence levels in the show were reflected in the number of rebooked stands, which is currently 25% ahead of the same time last year. Many products were unveiled at the show, including the ARRI ALEXA Mini camera, Exalux' Brix modular lighting system, Amagi's Stormplus satellite and cloud IRD, and Toughnut's WMT Agile 2.0 R video tramsmission backpack.
Tom Blake, CEO, Cambridge Imaging Systems, said, BVE has been a great show for us. It allows us to do nearly a fortnight's work in just one morning, which is such an efficient use of our time, and it covers the cost of our stand. The client engagement has been great - unlike international shows where we see the same faces each day, BVE gives us the opportunity to see different people across all three days of the show.
The free seminars saw queues for many sessions and standing room only was a regular feature. Speakers included the American director Catherine Hardwicke; Dan Patton, Viacom's VP Digital Media (UK, Australia & CEE); Ben Lunt, Leo Burnett's Head of Multimedia; and Bruno Mahe, Head of Technology, Illumination Mac Guff. The first ever Live! Ammunition! session, which invited all-comers to pitch their movie ideas to a panel moderated by Elliott Grove of Raindance, proved immensely popular and competitive, and was won by Mark Danciger.
Alison Willis, Event Director, said, We're delighted with the reception we've received on the first day of BVE, with exhibitors and visitors alike expressing their satisfaction with the show so far.
The show remains open today and tomorrow, with highlights of the seminar programme including the anticipated keynote with Richard Ayoade and Adam Buxton (17.00 Wednesday, 4K Theatre), a panel led by SMPTE on how to become a broadcast engineer (13.00 Thursday, Broadcast Tech & Workflow Theatre), Oscar nominated cinematographer Franklin Dow on capturing beauty in challenging environments (12.35 Thursday, Cinematography & Lighting Theatre) and a panel of leading broadcasters' Commissioning Editors for factual discussing their programming requirements in 2015 (13.40 Thursday, Production Theatre).
