Legacy Purchases New Mobile for Kent & Canterbury Hospital

Kent and Canterbury Hospital's Radiology Department were delighted to learn that they would benefit from a generous legacy left by the late Janine Farwell. Ms Farwell was treated at the hospital for breast cancer, and her bequest to the League of Friends was made in thanks for the care that was given to her at a difficult time.

Trust charitable funds in conjunction with the Friends of the William Harvey Hospital purchased two Fujifilm FDR Go mobile x-ray units, with a third unit for the Kent and Canterbury Hospital funded largely by Ms Farwell's substantial bequest. The East Kent Hospitals Trust also invested in eight Fujifilm D-Evo II retrofit detectors that enabled the Trust to upgrade its old CR equipment to DR without incurring the expense of installing new rooms and prolonging the life of their existing mobiles. The new equipment will increase the through-put and efficiency at the three main Trust sites - William Harvey in Ashford, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in Margate and Kent and Canterbury in Canterbury.

We first saw the Fujifilm mobiles and retrofit solutions at UKRC in 2016 and were very impressed said Lee Gavin, Principal Radiographer at Kent and Canterbury. Glenn Harvey, Advanced Practitioner at Kent and Canterbury, added Since the new equipment has been installed we have noticed a marked improvement in workflow and image quality. The new FDR Go mobile was unveiled by the Sheriff of Canterbury, Cllr Colin Spooner, who was joined by the League of Friends and the Radiology team. The radiographers have named the mobile Jan in memory of Janine Farwell and in recognition of her generous legacy which will benefit Kent and Canterbury Hospital patients in the years to come.
