Jada Pinkett Smith has confirmed that she and her husband Will Smith have been separated since 2016.

In an interview she did with Hoda Kotb on the Today show, Pinkett Smith said the couple decided not to go htrough with the divorce.

By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.

Jada Pinkett claims she and Will Smith were pretending to be a couple I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce, explaining, We will work through whatever.

I just haven't been able to break that promise, Pinkett Smith added.

After the news broke, many fans took to social media to express their shock. One name that was mentioned frequently was that of American actor and comedian Chris Rock.

Rock(58) was smacked in the face by Will Smith onstage at the 2022 Academy Awards after he made a joke about her shaved head.

Pinkett Smith thought Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars was a skit.

Jada and Will were separated for 6 years before the 2022 Oscars slap, which Jada originally thought was a "skit" and "there's no way that Will hit [Chris Rock]."
