Focus on growth markets generates strong year-end results for Rohde & Schwarz 02 November 2015Rohde & Schwarz has successfully closed fiscal year 2014/2015. Order income was 6.1 percent higher than in the previous year, with revenue up 4.1 percent. With its advanced technologies and trailblazing products, the electronics group was able to maintain its leading market position. Business development focused on test and measurement and secure communications. In addition, the group substantially expanded its cybersecurity activities.
Munich, November 2, 2015 In the 2014/15 fiscal year (July to June), Rohde & Schwarz increased its order income to more than EUR 1.9 billion and generated approx. EUR 1.83 billion in revenue. At the end of the fiscal year, the company had around 9,900 employees, as compared with 9,800 a year earlier.
The largest contributor to the group s solid results was again wireless communications T&M, despite consolidation in the 3G and 4G market. This success was in part thanks to the first research and development orders in connection with the new 5G wireless communications standard.
Rohde & Schwarz offers a comprehensive product portfolio covering the entire lifecycle of mobile networks. Together with its subsidiaries ipoque and Swissqual, the group is a single-source provider for the entire mobile network testing market segment. This unique offering enabled Rohde & Schwarz to slightly increase its market share in Europe.
Many customers need standard T&M instruments in the lower price category. For these customers, the group s Value Instrument product range offers top T&M instruments with proven Rohde & Schwarz quality and the customary high standards of service. To promote further growth of the Value Instruments product range, the subsidiary Hameg Instruments GmbH will be fully integrated into the Test & Measurement Division during the coming calendar year. Alongside its direct sales channel, the group is also developing a worldwide distribution network for this product line to better address the wide-base market in the future.
The market position of oscilloscopes, the company s latest T&M product line, improved considerably over the past fiscal year. To sustain this positive trend, Rohde & Schwarz will continue to expand its oscilloscope portfolio by adding new models, applications and accessories.
In the broadcast and media market segment, Rohde & Schwarz has successfully established itself as an innovative provider of multimedia and studio solutions. It now offers a complete product range covering the entire transmission path for the high-resolution 4K video format from ingest of audio/video data to professional TV and film post production to broadcasting. The R&S AVHE100 encoding and multiplexing solution in particular is used in test operations and initial UHD TV services.
The secure communications business field, which is characterized by long project planning phases, significantly increased order income. Rohde & Schwarz made an early strategic decision to implement IP capability in all of its communications systems. The resulting technological edge over competitors is increasingly reflected in incoming orders. In June 2015, for example, Rohde & Schwarz secured a major contract with BAE Systems to supply the communications system for the British Royal Navy s Type 26 Global Combat Ship.
Protection of communications and data is becoming increasingly important in this age of global networking. Risks for companies, government authorities and critical infrastructures are rising dramatically. Consequently, Rohde & Schwarz intends to increase its activities in this future market, and will enhance its existing cybersecurity expertise through external impetus. The group secured additional know-how this past fiscal year by acquiring gateprotect GmbH and Sirrix AG. The product portfolio currently extends from encryption solutions to next-generation firewalls and endpoint security applications.
The group plans to develop the Rohde & Schwarz cybersecurity brand in the B2B field by offering first-class high-tech solutions "made in Germany" and to position itself as a trustworthy European provider.
