KDDI to Offer "Travel Data eSIM powered by GigSky" Japan's First eSIM Service for Dual SIM iPhones

KDDI CORPORATION and OKINAWA CELLULAR TELEPHONE COMPANY on April 17 will begin offering Travel Data eSIM powered by GigSky, the first service ever offered by a Japanese carrier [

1] enabling users of dual SIM-compatible iPhones to use local data services through a secondary phone line when traveling in North America and Hawaii.

The service is made available through the eSIM platform operated by GigSky (Palo Alto, U.S., CEO: Ravi Rishy-Maharaj). Since the service is purchased through a special app as a plan with a preset time period and data volume, it is easy to use without worry.

KDDI and OKINAWA CELLULAR provide the service for a World Data Flat that offers overseas data transmission for an affordable one-time fee of 980 per 24 hours of access. The offer is made in response to the needs expressed by customers who want to economically use the same iPhone overseas that they always use in Japan.

Now customers can access data service through their own iPhones without having to rent a Wi-Fi router. The service brings convenience and availability of service not just to holiday travel, but also to long-term stays like study abroad.

2] From the App Store, download the Travel Data eSIM app. From the app, create an account, set your payment method, purchase a plan, and download your eSIM data. After arrival at your destination, you can start using the plan automatically through connections to local networks.
