London, September 22, 2015 - FOX International Channels (FIC) Content Sales today announced the expansion of its catalogue to include a robust slate of formats. Originally developed at FIC to feed the group's global entertainment and factual networks, the newly launched format rights for Lucky Ladies, School for Husbands, F***ing Telemarketers as well as an exciting line of existing FICCS formats that include National Geographic Channel's Street Genius, Car S.O.S and Science of Stupid and a bouquet of telenovela hailing from FOX Telecolombia, will be available as formats at MIPCOM this coming October.
It is very exciting to be adding FIC's original formats to our expanding rights portfolio. These shows have done incredibly well for our local channels, frequently delivering outstanding performance records, and we're thrilled to be offering them to international broadcasters to create equally successful local versions. said Prentiss Fraser, FIC SVP, Global Head of Content Sales.
Fox International Channels, under the stewardship of Emmy award-winning Executive Producer Christian Barcellos, now FIC's EVP of Unscripted Entertainment, has been aggressively stepping up its production of unscripted originals in key markets across the world.
Over the past two years we've gone from modest experiments in local original programming to the development of true global franchises that have galvanised ratings and social media buzz in each country. said Barcellos. Lucky Ladies, School for Husbands and F***ing Telemarketers were designed to be customised by each market, and I can't wait to see how these different interpretations build on the success of the originals.
The Lucky Ladies franchise was initially produced in Mexico, and has since been exported to Brazil, Italy and Argentina. This docu-soap format chronicles the life of diverse groups of women bonded by a common lifestyle and living in a world of their own. From rocker's wives in Mexico to fashion mavens in Italy, funk performers in Brazil to high society wives of powerful polo players, each series is uniquely defined by the women at its core. And each inhabits a distinct world with characters and passions that resonate forcefully in that market. At launch Lucky Ladies helped FOX Life to be the second most watched Pay TV channel in Mexico, where the series regularly outperformed the slot average. In Brazil, the freshman season delivered a +200% performance bump above channel's primetime average, while in Italy over 2.7 million viewers tuned in over the course of the season.
School for Husbands, with a second season in production in Argentina and freshmen seasons underway in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, is a fascinating new competitive reality format that puts a humorous spotlight on disastrous relationships and sees if a group of wives can trade in the husbands they live with - for the ones they married! The format takes eight couples whose marriage is a mess. The men are all charismatic, funny and charming - while the wives are all completely unreasonable or so the men believe. School for Husbands represents a last chance for the men to change their errant ways, before they are kicked out of the house. An intensive education and training programme guides the men's rehabilitation' week-to-week. In the end, the best students are revealed and the overall winner receives a second honeymoon to put all those new marriage lessons into practise. School for Husbands was a massive hit in Argentina for 18-49 year-olds; achieving +187% of average channel rating at launch and making it FOX Life's #1 show.
F***ing Telemarketers with a second season in production, is a workplace comedy meets docu-soap format capturing the hilarious interactions between telemarketers and their eccentric boss, who'll do anything to keep his workers on the phones. The boss incentivises his crew with beach-based condo-living in a vacation paradise, free of charge - where they can work at night and play during the day. This new format offers viewers an intimate and surprising look at the people you dread whenever the phone rings. With the feel of a mockumentary such as The Office' but with real people and the spirit of Jersey Shore', F***ing Telemarketers has been a runaway success. Its first episode was the most watched programme ever for FOX in Finland and a second series is already in production.
