Mpho J Molepo, better known as Uncle Kabisi on Generations: The Legacy has revealed his plans for uplifting aspiring actors and alike in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

The actor told Daily Sun that he wants to see young people growing and creating their own shows in the theatre space.

As the founder and director of Alex Theatre Company and Academy, I want to see talents grow around the country. I've been involved in the making of theatre and dance policies with the intention of contributing towards changing the theatre and dance landscape, he said.

MPHO J MOLEPO MAKING ARTS ACCESSIBLE Molepo's plan with the academy is to make arts accessible while empowering young people in communities.

The Alex Youth Festival is one of the biggest initiatives I have started. Every year, it looks at a different theme with the aim of keeping theatre alive and letting young people communicate their feelings, he said.

He also said the festival offers the community an opportunity to see themselves in the plays produced.

The festival also allows young people to look at the present status quo. We are using theatre as a voice for the voiceless, he told the publication.

We are making sure that theatre stays alive in Alex. We are using theatre as a weapon and the pulse of the community of Alex and city of Joburg, Molepo said.

LACK OF FUNDS FOR THE ACADEMY The 43-year-old says that although they have received a positive response with the academy, they are unable to take a number of people because of limited funds.

Molepo did however tell Daily Sun that they are grateful for the partnership they have with Arts Alive, as it brings the youth of Gauteng together.

I am fulfilled when I see young people flourishing. I'm happy when I see development in the township I grew in, he said.
