Brazilian badass Leticia Bufoni went into last month's Street League Super Crown World Championship as the defending champ. She left with a second place finish and a medical escort out of the arena. She's fine now, but it was brutal watching the 23-year-old send it on her last trick only to be met with what some are calling the most brutal SLS slam ever.
Leticia says going into her last trick she knew she had second locked in, but if she got just one more point, she'd inch Lacey Baker out of first.
I was like: I already have a lot of points, but I only need one more point, so if I do something easy I'm not going to change my score. To get more than seven I need to do something big.
So she went for a huge gap to lipslide.
I don't know what happened because the last time I looked at my board, I looked at my feet, everything looked right. I thought I had it, and in my head, I'm thinking I've got it; I'm going to land it. I don't know what happened. Next thing I remember, I'm in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
She ended up coming up short, baring the brunt of her fall on her face and neck. But like we said, she is a badass and took it like a champ. She even threw an I'm OK shaka on her way out.
In reality, I thought I was going to die, she said about the moments following the fall. After a quick trip to the hospital and some necessary tests, she was actually released that night. And after two weeks, she was back in the gym. She dealt with a sore neck and some headaches, but no long term damage.
Now, just four weeks later, she stopped by the GoPro offices in San Diego to everyone know she's back to skating at a 100 percent. It actually was perfect timing-well, no injury is perfect, but some come at better times than others-because she's heading into offseason.
The next few months will be filled with family, holidays and lots of skating.
When asked what is the next big competition on her radar, it's X Games, hands down. She currently has three X Games gold medals and is looking to make it four in 2017.
Until then, you can catch her in an upcoming series with The Berrics or on her Brazlian-based reality TV show Leticia Let's Go. She wraps on her second season in January.
