SCTE, CABLELABS ANNOUNCE ENHANCED RELATIONSHIP TO ACCELERATE TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES
OCT. 21, 2013 (Atlanta, GA) The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs ) today announced an enhanced relationship that is designed to use the combined strengths of both organizations to accelerate the worldwide development and deployment of new cable network technologies.
The relationship is designed to enable the innovation of CableLabs and the applied science, engineering and training capabilities of SCTE to be brought together in a clearly defined, collaborative way. In addition, it creates a framework that will enable parallel development of new technologies and supporting training resources by SCTE and CableLabs, including DOCSIS training and certification that begins this month, as well as educational activities at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo .
"As greater demands are placed on cable networks, it's important that the industry's two leading technical organizations work together in the most efficient manner possible," said Phil McKinney, president and CEO of CableLabs. "By working more closely with SCTE, we believe we can help the industry to accelerate deployment of solutions that universally will benefit operators, programmers, advertisers and, most importantly, consumers."

Among the pivotal components of the enhanced relationship will be alignment on standards and training programs that are designed to drive workforce readiness as new innovations come to market. Examples of the collaboration between the two organizations include partnerships on such projects as:
A DOCSIS Engineering Professional Certification (DEP) that certifies the knowledge of the interface requirements and operation for the deployment of DOCSIS devices over cable networks;
A training course that is designed to address such areas as Architecture, DOCSIS Layering, DOCSIS Network Operations and DOCSIS Technology Enablement in preparation for the DEP certification examination; and
Today's joint symposium on DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 here.
SCTE and CableLabs have worked together with the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) to develop the educational program for the Spring Technical Forum at The Cable Show. They also are scheduling quarterly strategic meetings and other activities that can increase communications.
