I recently introduced my kids to a new sport, SUP (stand up paddle boarding). I'm not a mid-century hipster gone wild; I'm more just an active dad who likes outdoor adventure. I enjoyed watching my kids approach this with cautious excitement. Seeing them dig into the unknown to learn techniques and develop their own skills is quite rewarding. I provided them with direction based on what others have taught me and my own discoveries. We playfully laugh at failure and smile proudly at achievement. We're having a lot of fun with this sport- and creating some great memories along the way.
The Changing Records Management Playing Field
It seems every year there's a new sport introduced in the world of Records and Information Management. Back in the day, there was paper, fiche and film. The sport had few rules, the playbook was thin and you didn't need a helmet. Today things are much different, the rules seem to go on forever, there's an expanding library of playbooks and penalties for not following by the rules.
In the sport of Records and Information Management RIM, how does anyone compete? What kind of team do you need? What's the secret to a winning program? The good news is there are many compliant programs that demonstrate real business value to their organizations. We can all advance the level of play in the RIM Cup by working with partners and others who can provide expertise and best practices. By sharing customer experiences about what works coupled with success metrics (including cost savings, efficiency gains and increased compliance) can help you advance your program. No one should be uncomfortable reaching out for assistance; this sport is being redefined almost daily!
It's game time!!
Seeking advice and providing guidance is a healthy thing to do and it has benefits. Before my daughter got on the paddle board for the first time, she look over to me and asked, What do I do so I don't fall off ? I provided some basic instruction and she was up, staying up, smiling and enjoying a beautiful day without the stress and anxiety that comes from learning and doing something new in front of your peers.
The recent experience with my kids reminded me how much difference a few simple pointers can make in somebody's day. So be open to new possibilities - you might just win more than you thought possible.
