IBC06 Makes Innovation Awards Even Better

Over the past few years, the IBC Innovation Awards have established for themselves an enviable reputation as the premier accolade that recognises the way the industry works in the real world. Not purely awarded to the companies who develop pioneering technology, nor solely given to the broadcasters and media companies that utilise it, the awards recognise the marriage between the two and that it is precisely this collaboration between vendor and user that is the most effective form of progress there is.

The awards are split into separate categories for Content Creation, Content Management and Content Delivery. 2015's winners in the hotly contested awards were: The Singer Takes it All, which allowed realtime polling to drive technical features in a studio; ESPN's IP-centric Digital Centre 2 production centre; and Sundance Channel Global's cloud-based playout solution for regionalised content. Many of the most pioneering companies in the industry have been honoured similarly in previous years.

The awards are presented as part of a fast-paced and high-profile ceremony, always one of the centrepieces of any IBC show, and this year have been reimagined to reflect their increasing popularity.

A wide range of brand new benefits have been introduced by the organisation for every level of entrant. This starts from the very beginning, with all entrants benefitting from a package that includes website and email coverage, inclusion in the official Awards Programme, coverage in the IBC Daily, the awards logo to use in publicity material, and, of course, reserved seating at the ceremony itself.

Those that go on to get shortlisted enjoy further benefits, including increased web, press and social media coverage, inclusion in public relations materials, an IBC TV interview, and more. In other words, as well as being a highly prestigious event in itself, entering the IBC Innovation Awards is fast becoming a highly effective way to increase a company's profile both before, during, and after the show; dramatically raising visibility in front of a global audience of peers.

The Awards really do have a global resonance. One of the finalists from last year's contest, for instance, was a Latin American broadcaster running software developed by an Indian company using a communications platform from Spain.

In order to provide these extensive benefits, which have been valued at over £4,500 for winners, IBC has introduced a small submission fee of £500. Previous IBC Innovation Awards winners have included CNN, ITN, Walt Disney Pictures, NASCAR and many more, while they also encompassed many of the technologies (second screen apps, high speed replay, DVB-T2, High Dynamic Range) that we take for granted in the modern industry.

Entries are open until Friday 26 February and interest is already very strong. It will be fascinating to see who takes to the stage in Amsterdam, but one thing is for certain: you will hear even more about the IBC Innovation Awards and the companies that power them this year than ever before.
