UNNC students invent dual purpose chair and win st prize in US

Many young parents are fully aware of the benefits of a high chair for children, but the price of the high chairs are not cheap, take up space and can be used only once in a while. Two junior students from The University of Nottingham in Ningbo seized on this problem by inventing a chair that can be used both by adults and children.

After a short while, good news came that the chair won the first prize in the student group of the American International Design Contest. This is a global and authoritative design contest which encourages new ideas and works of design that break away from the norm.

The secret of what they call the grown up chair' is that the cushion is subtly divided into two parts. The user is free to adjust the cushion of the seat so that it can be an adult seat or an infant seat. It is easy to operate and can save the owner money and space.

The names of designers are Chen Qingli and Sun Yuxiang. Their major is Industrial design 4+0. They started work on the seat in March, and received an award for it in July. It was dull during the working process, but they made it through. Though the work was often difficult, they persevered in finishing the idea and were very happy when they heard the good news.

They want to apply for a patent as quickly as possible so that they can make production samples and get the grown up chair' put into service in households worldwide.
