SEAMAC Regional Finals Winners Crowned

Claco Music (Taiwan), Erdo (Taiwan) and Jetbay (China) move on to the World Grand Finals

Singapore, 6 February 2014 - They came. They battled. They triumphed.

After going through months of intense development, acceleration programmes and pitching, Claco Music (Taiwan), Erdo (Taiwan) and Jetbay (China) today outshone 23 other regional finalists from nine countries to emerge winners of the inaugural Southeast Asia Pacific Mobile App Challenge (SEAMAC).

Claco Music's MusicPlayAlong is a music training app that allows students to practise their instruments with the help of backing music accompaniment. Erdo is a music player app that first measures the quality of the user's hearing and then plays music tracks that are optimised for his/her hearing capability. Jetbay is a travel research and booking platform for China, providing inbound travellers with access to reliable information on what to do and where to go in the country.

These three winning teams were lauded by a judging panel of 10 renowned industry experts, for their in-depth market analysis, strong commercial appeal and unique offerings that deliver real benefits in Education, Entertainment and Tourism. Having received a total of S$25,000 in prize money, they will be competing with the Arab and European Mobile App Challenge winners in the World Grand Finals at GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this March.

Mr Stephen Lee, StarHub's Head of i3 (Innovation, Investment, Incubation) commented, We are impressed by the quality of submissions for our first-ever regional mobile app development challenge, during which hundreds of talented teams battled intensely since September last year for the chance to showcase their innovation to the world at the upcoming MWC. Such app challenges drive much excitement in the developer community and at the same time, enable StarHub to make significant inroads in supporting and promoting the start-up culture in our part of the world.

Organised by StarHub i3 (Innovation, Investment, Incubation) in collaboration with Applied Innovation Institute, GSMA, IE Business School and J-Seed Ventures, SEAMAC brought together hundreds of app developers from Singapore, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.

The panel of judges include Jeffrey Paine, Founding Partner of Golden Gate Ventures; David Dacus, Founder & CEO of HitPlay; James Tan, Managing Partner of QuestVC and Neal Cross, Managing Director & Chief Innovation Officer of DBS Bank.
