TVSA reports that e.tv's medical drama Durban Gen will be replaced by Nikiwe, which is produced by Parental Advisory Production.

BACKGROUND OF NIKIWE' The publication adds that Nikiwe, which is produced by Thomas Gumede and Lungile Radebe from Parental Advisory Productions will premiere on e.tv on Monday 24 April at 18h30 when Durban Gen ends.

The production is popularly known for shows such as Perfect Match and Uyang'thanda Na?, and the Mzansi Magic's faith-based drama series Abomama.

The story follows the lives of the Radebes, who witness the rise and fall of a family empire based in Diepkloof Extension, Pimville, and Orlando, Soweto.

e.tv's Executive Producer Mark Madai revealed in a statement: Exciting times are ahead of us, as a channel we fell in love with this story concept because it also follows the lives of the youth, we've explored all possible dilemmas that this market would go through and translated them to screen, giving viewers a product that they'll resonate with, night in, night out.

DURBAN GEN' CANCELLED According to TVSA the hospital drama will officially end on Friday 21 April, and Nikiwe will debut the following Monday.

News24 reports the hospital drama, which is produced by Stained Glass TV production launched on e.tv in October 2020

e.tv confirmed in May 2022 that the hospital drama will be coming to an end in January 2023 and the decision to decommission the daily drama is part of a business strategy that includes the ongoing review of the on-air life cycle of all our shows.

e.tv continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate of producing exceptional and relevant local content, and the production has successfully achieved its part of the obligation throughout the past 2 years.
