AAA Entertainment secures Netflix deal for Hard to Get --

AAA Entertainment has announced a US deal with Netflix for the film Hard to Get. This 2014 action film directed by Zee Nthuli, and from producers Helena Spring and Junaid Ahmed, that was part of the NFVF slate fund, will see the first South African film, represented by AAA Entertainment, available for the US market in 2016, via the Netflix video-on-demand platform.
AAA Entertainment signed Hard to Get after it opened DIFF in 2014. Through their efforts to promote the film internationally, the film was selected to be screened last year in competition at the Fantastic Fest, in Austin Texas, one of the largest genre festivals, specialising in horror, fantasy, sci-fi and action movies from all around the world.
With AAA Entertainment and director Zee Ntuli in attendance to represent the film, Netflix expressed their interested in acquiring it and engaged with AAA Entertainment. Netflix only buys from a handful of distributors around the world so AAA Entertainment subsequently signed a world wide distribution deal with FilmBuff who in turn negotiated the US SVOD rights with Netflix.
This is the first deal through FilmBuff and AAA Entertainment expect many more to come, as well as Hard To Get to be available on iTunes and other SVOD platforms world wide in the next three months.
Pascal Schmitz head of Acquisitions says, Hard to Get was a very well made genre film, by which I mean action, thriller, sci-fi and horror, and we are encouraging African filmmakers to make more films of this nature as they travel well without needing A list international cast to sell them.
