The Encounters Training and Industry Programme, a part of the Encounters International Documentary Film Festival which takes place from 4 to 14 June in Johannesburg and Cape Town, is supported by a number of festival funders and partners. These include the National Film and Video Foundation, The Bertha Foundation, Al Jazeera, WESGRO, HCI Foundation, What on, Backsberg Estate Cellars, Big Fish and the Danish Film Institut.

The A-Z of Democrats Masterclass by Camilla Nielsson
This Masterclass is an exceptional opportunity to join Nielsson as she revisits her process in creating her film Democrats, from financing what seemed to be the most un-commercial of concepts, to premiering a documentary which would take this Zimbabwean story around the world.

Al Jazeera Pitching Forum and Information Session
Encounters, in partnership with Al Jazeera, is hosting the Al Jazeera Pitching Forum, taking place in Johannesburg during the 17th Encounters South African International Documentary Festival. Encounters will also host an Al Jazeera information and networking session before the Pitch Forum begins, with Head of Investigative Programmes, Diarmuid Jeffreys. Attendees are welcome to stay for the pitching forum thereafter.
