AVITENG Deploys Hybrid Baseband/IP Architecture for Turkey's ATV Broadcast Network with AJA Solutions posted: 20/08/2020
To future-proof broadcast workflows for Turkish television network ATV, regional systems integrator AVITENG was recently tapped by Turkuvaz Media Group for their development of a new hybrid architecture that combined the existing baseband infrastructure with a broadcast IP and 12G-SDI framework. Rollout of the upgraded system for ATV, Turkuvaz's flagship channel and one of Turkey's most prominent networks, coincided with the move to a new state-of-the-art media center facility. Deployment of the robust hybrid system included a range of AJA Corvid and KONA I/O cards and AJA openGear-compatible Converters used throughout both broadcast baseband and SMPTE ST 2110-20 IP workflows.
During development of ATV's new broadcast system, we provided AJA I/O and conversion products because of versatility, performance and seamless interoperability with software and hardware from other manufacturers, said Burak Devecel, Managing Partner, AVITENG. It has become a requirement for many of our customers to work with AJA products for reliability. As broadcast standards evolve, AJA is also committed to upgrading its solutions to support the latest formats.
A selection of AJA Corvid and KONA devices, including 47 Corvid 44 12G BNC, 10 Corvid 22, 10 KONA IP and 23 KONA LHi cards, provide versatile interconnectivity between production servers and workstations with broadcast production and automation equipment in ATV's upgraded media facilities for both baseband and IP workflows. ATV news, ingest, playout and MAM automations are built on Cinegy production workflow software, with flexible video and audio I/O powered by Corvid and KONA. For live broadcast graphics, Corvid and KONA are also used as the hardware I/O solutions in conjunction with Ross XPression real-time graphics software. Corvid 44 12G BNC features four bidirectional 12G-SDI BNC connections for single-cable input and output of high-bandwidth content, including HFR, HDR and high raster video up 8K, further simplifying latency-free transport of uncompressed signals. To future-proof workflows, KONA IP offers flexible SMPTE ST 2110 I/O support up to 4K/UltraHD as ATV transitions to increased adoption of IP pipelines.
To streamline acquisition for remote video and audio feeds captured via teleconferencing tools, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom, AJA openGear cards are critical for powering HDMI to SDI conversion to standardize on formats and integrate remote signals into live production workflows. Integral for capturing remote content during the pandemic shutdown, ATV uses 15 OG-ROI-HDMI region of interest scan converters and five OG-HA5-4K HDMI 2.0 to 3G-SDI converters to transfer up to 4K/UltraHD incoming content from HDMI to 3G-SDI. The OG-ROI-HDMI cards also provide image scaling and aspect ratio and frame conversion to seamlessly integrate HDMI from computer sources into ATV's broadcast workflow. All AJA openGear cards are housed within redundant-powered openGear rackframes with easy DashBoard network control for convenient configuration and monitoring.
In closing, Kerim Kebabci, Broadcast Technologies Director at Turkuvaz Media Group, stated, For feature set, price and performance, AJA solutions offer top value, consistency and reliability for production workflows, all key demands when it comes to maintaining network operations in critical broadcast environments.
