Ora TV Shoots Flagship Series, Larry King Now, with Four AG-AF00 Large Imager HD Cinema Cameras

Larry King Now, the new talk show on Ora TV and Hulu hosted by the iconic broadcast journalist, has just entered its second season and already encompasses 180+ episodes, all shot on Panasonic AG-AF100 large imager HD cinema camcorders. Earlier this summer, a second series led by King, Politicking with Larry King, premiered and is likewise shot with the AF100s.

Larry King Now primarily features one-on-one interviews with trendsetting newsmakers, celebrities and world leaders, and similar in style to his previous television series, Larry King Live on CNN. Larry King Now was the first venture of Ora TV, an on-demand digital television network launched in 2012 by King and business magnate Carlos Slim Hel . Recent guests have included Denzel Washington, Jeff Bridges, Lisa Kudrow, Jane Lynch and Julian Lennon.

New episodes of Larry King Now are available weekdays at 5 p.m. ET on Ora TV http://www.ora.tv. Viewers can also watch full episodes on Hulu and Hulu Plus-enabled streaming devices on TV, mobile and tablet devices. The show also airs via broadcast cable television on RT America, and has recently expanded internationally. New episodes of Politicking with Larry King air via broadcast cable television Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET & 11 p.m. ET on RT America and RT TV. Episodes are also available for on-demand viewing on Ora TV, Hulu and Hulu Plus.

Ora TV, with production facilities in Los Angeles and New York City, generally pre-records both shows in its Glendale,CA studios, but not infrequently shoots off-site at such nearby venues as the Four Seasons Hotel and Verizon Amphitheater; in most cases, the staff takes its four AF100s along on these location shoots.

Christian Burton, Director of Operations for Now and Politicking, explained that on most studio shoots, the A camera (trained on the host) operates on a tripod; B camera on Dana dolly or tripod; C camera on a Dana dolly; and the D camera (which Burton operates) on a jib system. All the cameras are outfitted with Olympus lenses.

Burton said that the original purchase of four AF100s for Now (and, subsequently, also for Politicking, a weekly show) was followed by the purchase of a fifth AF100, devoted solely to production of the Daily Rehash, a video feed that features what's been blowing up on Twitter in 140 seconds (or less).

Beyond its demonstrated dependability, we like the AF100's interchangeable lensing and filmic look, said Burton. The HD-SDI out is also a critical asset.

Burton said that the productions record in-camera, and also output video signals to a TriCaster system to cut the show live. The shows are edited in Final Cut Pro.

The AF100 incorporates a large 4/3-inch, 16:9 MOS imager (with an imaging area just slightly smaller than 35mm cinema film) that minimizes skew with fast imager scanning, and incorporates an optical low pass filter for elimination of aliasing and moir .
