HP Supports RAI Migration from Broadcast to Modern Digital Media CompanyItalys national public broadcasting company transitions to full digital TV supply chain with HPPALO ALTO, Calif., April 13, 2015 HP today announced that it has helped Italys national public broadcasting company RAI lay the foundations for success as a modern digital media company by transitioning from tape to a full digital TV supply chain.
As part of RAI's multi-year program to modernize its production, editorial and commercial processes through the adoption of digital technologies, HP implemented the Transition-To-Tapeless (T3 or T-Cube) project. The project followed a public tender to give RAI a fully customized file-based TV production system. Instead of transferring tapes from and to a central archive, multiple users can now search, browse and edit potentially up to 100 million audio and video assets with just a few clicks, saving time, boosting productivity and increasing business efficiency.
With more than 10,000 employees, RAI is Italy's largest broadcaster, operating 14 television channels for digital terrestrial transmission and seven radio channels as well as several satellite and IP based platforms.

HP demonstrated the ability to support our T3 transformation program through the implementation of an enterprise-wide workflow and orchestration system backed by a high performance asset repository.
Under the multi-year deal, HP created a media cloud using HP servers, storage, and services in which workflows and media frameworks can evolve with little to no disruption of the whole system. HP implemented an assets repository and created an enterprise-wide workflow and orchestration system embedding media asset management and audio video elaboration subsystems. Extensive virtualization of computing and storage also secured TCO optimization.
Combining products from independent software vendors with HP's open standards-based servers and storage, HP's service-oriented architecture bridges RAIs TV production subsystems with IT platforms. As well as making file exchange easier and more cost-effective, the new platform supports 16 end-to-end TV production workflows, connects several departments and functions including post production, archive, schedule, playout and advertising, while running tens of thousands concurrent processes. It also frees up resources previously dedicated to legacy processes such as tape recording, media handling and ingest process for automated playout and editing, thereby increasing operational efficiency.
