Genelec Brings Cloud Services and Reference Levels to GLM 3 Software Application

Having revolutionised active monitoring more than a decade ago with the development of their GLM loudspeaker manager software, Genelec's continuous research has led to the introduction of GLM 3, incorporating beta Cloud services and Reference Level listening features. For the first time, users of Genelec SAM systems will be able to access GLM Cloud services anywhere and anytime - providing a secure back-up and instant access to the very latest software updates. The new Reference Level features have been developed in response to global broadcast standards, which demand that calibrated listening SPLs are adhered to in order to make programs interchangeable across a range of listening conditions. Since its introduction, the GLM software application has helped audio professionals on both Mac and PC to configure and automatically calibrate their Genelec SAM monitor systems, delivering fully optimised performance for their acoustic environment.

GLM 3 will provide each registered user with both local and beta Cloud options, with the ability to switch between the two. The Cloud server offers space to store three full system calibrations - each with 10 groups, amounting to 30 acoustic setups - while a Cloud Helpdesk facility enables users to submit GLM files to access online expert support and advice. The new Reference Level feature allows users to calibrate listening levels in accordance with ATSC A/85 and EBU R128 loudness standards, which combines the in-situ frequency response compensation and system alignment with the listening level calibrated to a loudness reference.

GLM 3 now provides this crucial feature, without the need for a high quality external monitor controller or other measurement tools. Additionally, in recognition of the fact that a predictable frequency response is key to reference monitoring, GLM 3 also comes with new personalisation features, making it easy for the user to customise their preferred response and depart from the ideal flat response - without sacrificing predictability. Other notable improvements include the ability to adjust the sensitivity of each Genelec monitor's ISS power-saving function, a microphone level checker and an indicator for used audio type, plus several other refinements, dialogue boxes and bug fixes. GLM 3 also provides a simple firmware update to allow all SAM monitors to enable these new features instantly.

With GLM and technologies such as SAM, we have helped professionals to work more efficiently and effectively for more than 10 years. Now with the addition of Cloud based services and loudness related Reference Level listening to GLM 3, we are once again redefining the industry's workflow, commented Genelec Managing Director, Siam k Naghian. Just as the first iteration of GLM software showed the way forward with Smart Active Monitoring, so GLM 3 now lays the path for the future - and we clearly see a wealth of possibilities that will benefit our customers hugely.

Genelec unveils flagship 7380 SAM subwoofer Genelec, the leader in active monitoring technology for four decades, is proud to introduce the 7380 SAM subwoofer, which delivers both high SPL and an extended low-distortion LF response in an impressively compact enclosure.

The new flagship of the SAM subwoofer range, the 7380 can be simply and seamlessly integrated into any monitoring system - from stereo to multi-channel, as well as part of a largescale 3D Immersive set-up - yielding a level of performance normally associated with much larger enclosures. Equipped with a newly designed Class-D amplifier section plus all the benefits of SAM technology, the 7380 has been created to exceed the demands of discerning professionals in music, post, film and broadcast. Furthermore, the 7380 partners perfectly with Genelec's The Ones' series of coaxial three-way monitors, particularly in the creation of Immersive systems for those working with Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and DTS:X formats.

Standing just 685mm in height with a width of 718mm and depth of 492mm, the 7380's 800W Class-D amplifier drives a custom 15-inch long throw woofer that, combined with Genelec's acclaimed LSE spiral enclosure, produces a remarkable maximum SPL of 119 dB (123 dB peak) plus precise low frequency response down to 16 Hz.

The incorporation of Genelec's acclaimed SAM technology puts the 7380 at the heart of a larger family of smart monitors and subwoofers from across the Genelec range. With GLM software for PC or Mac, up to 40 SAM monitors and subwoofers can be networked with instantly recallable system configurations and advanced auto-calibration features including level, time-of-flight and phase adjustments. GLM users benefit from extensive room compensation features including an adjustable crossover frequency and 20 parametric notch filters, ensuring that the 7380 can be optimised to achieve the best possible performance even in challenging acoustic environments. Crucially, GLM also supports both centralised and distributed bass management modes depending on the type of monitors being used.

However, the 7380 is just as effective in a non-SAM environment. A full complement of DIP switches can be easily accessed on the front panel, facilitating a full-featured standalone mode, including advanced calibration for hybrid systems in which traditional main monitors are used. In standalone mode, the crossover frequency is fixed at 85Hz. Finally, for those working with multi-channel audio, the 7380 offers 7.1 channel XLR analogue inputs and outputs, while an AES/EBU digital connection can be used either for stereo operation or for full 7.1 digital with the addition of Genelec's optional 9301 D
