The 28th EURORADIO World Music Workshop took place in Cardiff on Wednesday, 23 October. The event was held at the kind invitation of BBC Wales, a day before the start of Womex, arguably the most important international professional fair devoted to World and Roots Music.
The EURORADIO World Music Workshop gathered music producers from 16 different Members.
The Agenda of this one-day gathering obviously focused on media topics but also wider music issues:
- One of the highlights was the topic of "Music and Islam today". The Egyptian artist and producer Fathy Salama contributed live from Cairo;
- Philip K pers from Weimer University and Johannes Theurer (RBB/Berlin) came back to the Safar concert, a unique programme broadcast and webcast live from Kabul last August. The concert featured famous Afghan musicians who performed in Afghanistan for the first time in years. The concert was made available on EURORADIO 2SEE.
Welsh music had the place it deserves, with Prof. Stephen Rees going through the rich history of folk music in Wales.
The BBC introduced participants to some of its radio programmes devoted to World Music:
Roger Short (BBC Radio 3) introduced his colleagues Lopa Kothari and Max Reinhardt, presenters respectively of World on 3 and Late Junction.
At the end of the day, Johannes Theurer (RBB/Berlin) was re-elected EURORADIO World Music Chair.
