New company LWKS has acquired both non-linear editing system Lightworks and automated QC product QScan from EditShare.
The new company is being led by joint MD of EditShare EMEA James Richings, who has been appointed chairman, and new CEO Peter Lambert, previously EditShare's Asia VP of sales and a former country manager with Avid. Key members of the Lightworks and QScan software development teams are also joining LWKS.
The company is based in the UK, with various work hubs across Europe
Lightworks is used by leading film editors, including Oscar-winner Thelma Schoonmaker who edited Martin Scorsese's The Irishman using the platform, while the QScan AQC software is employed by the likes of NHK, Apple and Netflix.
According to Lambert, the acquisition, ensures both products will continue to be developed with the care and attention to detail that they deserve. Lightworks and QScan are multi award-winning products used by millions of content creators and hundreds of media services providers worldwide. We are looking forward to integrating exciting new features and toolsets for them in upcoming releases and developing workflows that fuel creativity.
LWKS said new releases for both products are currently slated for November, and the company plans to introduce a more intuitive user interface for Lightworks. They are also looking to open up the video and audio FX pipeline.
