In today's hybrid education environments, there is no one-size-fits-all' AV solution. Lightware's extensive AV portfolio addresses this challenge, offering powerful, scalable technologies to meet the needs of any learning environment, whether for remote learning, in-person classes, or hybrid setups. As a global leader in signal management solutions, Lightware's products, such as the Taurus range, allow institutions to optimize their AV infrastructure and provide adaptable, high-quality environments for teaching and learning. Dedicated to supporting education settings around the world, its grant program offers opportunity for schools, colleges, and universities to apply for a technology grant to assist with the acquisition of Lightware technology for a classroom. Plus, the company's LEAD (Lightware Education Audiovisual Developer) program further supports educational partners by providing specialized resources and training.
From classrooms and group study spaces to larger lecture theatres and hybrid classes, our solutions have been developed to provide efficient and reliable collaboration and control, explains Gergely Vida, CEO of Lightware. By leveraging our cutting-edge AV technologies, educational institutions can create dynamic learning environments that support both in-person and remote students and teachers.
Lightware's Taurus UCX series offers compact, powerful connectivity solutions for interactive classrooms. Supporting video, audio, data, and up to 100W charging over a single USB-C cable, alongside HDMI 2.0 integration and host switching, Taurus UCX is designed to simplify modern AV environments. It supports USB 3.1 Gen1 data connectivity with speeds of up to 5 Gbps, enabling reliable peripheral use alongside high-quality video.
With plug-and-play operation and flexible HDMI and USB-C connectivity for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) scenarios, lessons can start without delay. The Taurus UCX integrates with various video conferencing apps, including Google Meet, Cisco Webex, MS Teams, and Zoom, providing a flexible, intuitive workspace. Its 4K@60Hz video capability (up to 4:4:4) helps ensure remote students experience the same clarity and detail as those in the classroom, bridging the gap between learning environments.
For larger lecture theatres and auditoriums, Lightware's Taurus TPX solutions can reduce cabling complexity by extending video, audio, USB 2.0 and control signals over a single cable up to 100 metres. Built on high-bandwidth 10G Ethernet infrastructure and supporting SDVoE-based HDMI 2.0 signal extension, it enables high-resolution content delivery. The transmitter can also power compatible TPX receivers via PoE+ (up to 30W), while local USBC connectivity can provide laptop charging for streamlined presenter workflows. Lecture halls and auditoriums can seamlessly support a variety of AV setups without the need for complex installations or infrastructure changes.
For scalable, multi-room deployments, the Taurus TPN series extends the collaboration-focused workflows into a 10G SDVoE-based AV-over-IP ecosystem. With centralised discovery, configuration and routing via Lightware's Matrix Management Unit (MMU), TPN systems can deliver uncompressed 4K60 4:4:4 video and support predictable, ultra-low-latency switching with no visible delay, while also enabling flexible USB routing across the network for modern teaching and overflow spaces.
Lightware also provides essential support through its LEAD program, helping educational institutions stay ahead of the curve with the latest AV technologies. Through this comprehensive initiative, schools, colleges and universities can gain access to a range of benefits such as extended warranty coverage, system demonstrations and design advice, alongside advanced technical assistance and training for AV-IT teams. In addition, Lightware offers a technology grant programme, enabling institutions to fund classroom deployments, evaluate solutions, and support long-term campus upgrade strategies.
Lightware's ability to enhance educational settings has been demonstrated across many institutions worldwide. At Finland's Centria University, the Taurus UCX-4x3-HC40-BD has simplified connectivity for teachers in classrooms across campus, with plans to install additional TPN products to manage multi-use spaces. Meanwhile, the Taurus UCX and Taurus Smart Dock have been integral to the Eindhoven University of Technologys AV upgrade project, streamlining signal management across its 25 buildings.
For many educational institutions, the summer months provide a valuable window for these technology upgrades. By providing systems that can be easily integrated into existing infrastructures, Lightware ensures that schools and universities can improve their AV capabilities without disrupting the academic year.
We first became aware of Lightware's AV solutions when we visited Tilburg University and saw how the products had transformed their learning spaces, recalls Ruud Vercoulen, Project Manager at Eindhoven University of Technology. We were shown the impressive capabilities of the Taurus UCX-4x3-HC40 and knew this series would be a great fit for our classrooms and meeting rooms. Staff have commented on how easy the products are to use, and they really love the flexibility of being able to connect any device in a matter of seconds with just one cable, removing unnecessary equipment and stress.
Because the Lightware range is so flexible, it is easy for us to make changes to technology in-house when necessary, ensuring the project can continue to expand and develop without any issues, comments Ruud Vercoulen.
