Boiler Room is a London-based music platform that has given DJs across the globe the opportunity to showcase their skills to a wider audience. Cape Town's very own DJ duo, Surreal Sessions, will be jetting off to Amsterdam next month for the international Boiler Room Music Festival.

ABOUT BOILER ROOM Although it was founded in London, Boiler Room has travelled to countries like New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Through its platform, DJs like DBN Gogo, Kelvin Momo, Disclosure, Kaytranada, Vigro Deep, and internet sensation Uncle Waffles have shared their music with the world.

The DJ sets are often streamed on YouTube and many have scored more than 100 000 views each. Uncle Waffles' Boiler Room set in Johannesburg has been viewed more than one million times.

CAPE TOWN'S SURREAL SESSIONS TO JET OFF TO AMSTERDAM Surreal Sessions, made up of Jodie Williams and Liam Bowers, will be performing at the international Boiler Room Music Festival in Amsterdam in November. Speaking to IOL, the two 24-year-olds explained that the exciting opportunity came about after a collaboration with Boiler Room.

It's called Third Space, it is when producers and artists from different parts of the world see how they can connect, said Williams.

We chose to mix gqom with dance hall and used certain elements to create a new sound for this festival.

We were manifesting an opportunity to play overseas and have been trying to play abroad for some time. It feels amazing to be acknowledged for your craft and achieve your goals.

REPRESENTING SOUTH AFRICA ON AN INTERNATIONAL STAGE As they mark 10 years of being on the decks together, Williams added that they just wanted to share their sound with the world.

There's always representation from Johannesburg but it's not as prevalent from Johannesburg but it's not as prevalent for Cape Town DJs.

I'm hopeful that we can shift that narrative and show Cape Town has what it takes and we look forward to the experience.
