Snell Helps Queens Public Television Reach More Viewers on More Screens with Transition to High-Def Digital

Snell today announced that its technology forms the backbone for a complete systems overhaul at Queens Public Television (QPTV), enabling the company to deliver local content to more screens than ever before. The refit will help transform QPTV's studio into a fully digital, high-definition production center able to transmit up to six HD and SD channels and deliver video on demand to local subscribers of RCN Cable Systems, Time Warner Cable of New York City, and Verizon FiOS, as well as via the internet to tablets, phones and other devices.

As part of the upgrade, QPTV will move from its existing analog video, tape-based production set-up to a server-based, digital HDTV workflow that centers on Snell Morpheus automation, ICE Channel-in-a-Box and Sirius 830 routing.

Choosing Snell as our technology provider was an essential part of our success in revamping this facility, noted QPTV President Dan Leone. With the help of Snell and our integration team Interlink, Inc. of Wingdale, N.Y. we were able to rebuild within the same footprint as the existing facility. Interlink developed and is implementing a plan with us that allows staff training on the Snell equipment and will then enable transition to the new systems without disturbing on-air operations. Snell ICE Channel-in-a-Box - with space at a premium in New York City, efficient equipment design is crucial. The ICE Channel-in-a-Box system provides comprehensive master control and playout infrastructure within 3RU of kit, replacing several racks of equipment

Snell Sirius 830 routing switcher - demand for bandwidth and speed for the routing of audio and video content is rapidly increasing. Uniquely combining hardware control panels with software for PC-based control, Snell's Sirius 830 technology is helping QPTV meet their needs today while building in the flexibility for future expansion

Snell Morpheus playout automation - used in tandem with Masstech's Topaz media asset management system for ingest and integration with post-production, Morpheus will create greater operational efficiencies by automating playout processes and simplifying the management of multiple cable channels
