WRAL Adds Tudor to Sports Team

Caulton Tudor has joined the WRALSportsFan team.

After more than 40 years in the newspaper business, sports columnist Caulton Tudor of Raleigh is joining the WRALSportsFan team.

An Angier native, Tudor began covering sports for The Raleigh Times in 1970 and was the lead sports columnist for The News & Observer for more than 20 years after the two newspapers were merged in the 1980s.

Tudor's columns ran regularly in The News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer from 2007 until his retirement from newspaper work in March.

Tudor brings his award-winning insight into ACC sports to WRALSportsFan starting May 8, 2013, with a look at the surprising success that ACC quarterbacks have had in the pro ranks.

I'm thrilled and honestly very grateful to have this opportunity. Just to think that I'm a rookie again and in such a prestigious organization is exciting and humbling, Tudor said. My hope is simply to help enhance an already extraordinary media enterprise.

Hell write weekly columns through the summer, and then ramp up the coverage come college football and basketball seasons. Hell also chime in on sports radio at 99.9 FM The Fan and 620 The Buzz, and will share his expertise on WRAL-TV.

Tudor has won numerous national, regional and state reporting and column writing awards. He was a 1999 inductee of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame and was presented the ACC Sports Media Association's Marvin Skeeter Francis Award for career achievement in 2012. He's been voted North Carolina sports writer of the year four times.

Tudor becomes the third reporter to have worked for both WRAL and The Raleigh Times, following the late Sen. Jesse Helms and the late Bette Elliott.
